Reading

During Term 4, our focus in reading will be on questioning the text. We will learn how to ask questions that deepen our understanding of the material. Additionally, we will continue to use information from the text and our prior knowledge to infer meaning. We will work on inferring, analyzing, and critiquing texts, developing our skills to understand the author's intent and the underlying messages in the stories we read. As part of our reading program, we will also conduct author studies, delving into the works of specific writers to understand their unique styles and themes. Summarising what we read will be another key skill we develop, ensuring we can capture the main ideas of texts concisely.

Expanding our vocabulary is crucial to understanding more complex texts. We will continue to learn and apply tier two vocabulary, enabling us to engage with a broader range of reading materials. Spelling rules and generalisation will continue to be a focus, enhancing our ability to spell words accurately and confidently.

Writing

In writing, we will explore the structure of explanation texts, learning how to present information clearly and logically. Additionally, we will dive into the world of poetry, exploring different forms and styles of poetry writing. Narratives will be another area of focus, where we will learn to craft stories that entertain and engage readers. Handwriting skills will be honed to ensure our writing is not only creative but also legible. We will follow the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, editing, and finally publishing our work. Our Writer's Notebook will be a space for us to experiment, create, and develop ideas for our writing pieces.

Speaking and Listening

Effective communication is key, so we will continue to practice active listening during conversations, ensuring we understand others' perspectives before responding. Describing characters, settings, and events in different types of literature will enhance our comprehension skills. We will interact in various settings: pairs, groups, and class discussions, where we will continue to learn to articulate our thoughts and opinions respectfully, taking turns when responding.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we will continue to explore number sequences and patterns through skip counting and daily fluency practice. Measurement will be a significant focus, including understanding capacity and mass using informal units. Fractions, money, and place value will deepen our understanding of numbers and their various applications.

Inquiry (Science)

Our inquiry topic for this term is Science, specifically focusing on light and sound. We will explore the properties of light and sound, understanding how they travel and interact with objects. Through hands-on experiments and engaging activities, we will delve into the fascinating world of these fundamental elements of our environment.

We are looking forward to an enriching and exciting Term 4, where we will continue to grow academically and personally. As always, your support and encouragement play a crucial role in our learning journey.
