Visual Art

This week we started our exciting sculpture unit.

Every student this week was offered the opportunity to have a play with a sculpting medium.

Grades three to six used stoneware clay and explored ways to join pieces using slip and score techniques and also practised simple pinch pot techniques.

Grade one and two students experimented with salt ceramic; a product similar to playdough but one which dries solid and can be painted after drying.

Foundation students used air dry clay, which is similar to stoneware clay but doesn’t need to be fired in a kiln.

The Art room is a vibrant and sometimes noisy space but with every class you could hear a pin drop as Mrs. Tulloch demonstrated scoring and attaching and pinch pot technique. Students seem to have a kind of reverence around clay. It’s a delight to observe.
