Principal message

Dear community of St Monica's,

Welcome back to term 4 everyone. I am excited to start the planning for 2024 and inform you that a number of changes are afoot.

Firstly, after consultation with teachers it has been decided that in 2024 our junior classes will be structured as straight classes, which means we will have the following classes-

2x Prep

2x Year 1

2x Year 2

4x 3/4

4x 5/6

Pupil free days

CES has made some important changes to teachers work patterns and conditions and benefits. These changes have been carefully considered and are necessary due to a variety of factors. These changes mean that we have been allocated an extra pupil free day in 2023 and 2 days in 2024.

To reduce the impact on families and students we have  decided to move the pupil free day already planned on the 10th November to Monday 18th December and have the extra pupil free day on Tuesday 19th December. This means that the final day for students in Term 4 will be Friday 15th December  and Friday 10th November will be a school day. Staff will be at school until Wednesday 20th December.

We have informed YMCA of the change.

Engagement surveys

Invitations will be sent to all families next week to participate in the CES school engagement surveys. The surveys will be conducted by staff, students and families. Your participation is appreciated. Please keep your eyes open for your invitation to participate via email.

Oval opening

There is great anticipation for the opening of the oval. The rain has created some delay but we hope to have students on the oval in week 3. To celebrate you are invited to the official opening of the new development on Thursday 2nd November from 3-5pm. It would be great to see you there!

SAC

The School Advisory Council will meet next Monday at 6pm

Grandparents Day

In week 3 on Tuesday 24th October we invite grandparents back to school. Please arrive at 2.30 so you can spend time in classrooms and then head to the library for a cup of tea.

Dogs on the yard

I have noticed that a number of dogs have been on the yard lately. It is inadvisable for children to approach unknown dogs, as even the friendliest dog can react negatively to an unknown person or a group of children. For the safety of all please keep your dogs off the yard. We have organised for the Living Safely with Pets program to come to school on Friday 13th October. They will be teaching children about how to approach animals.

Before School

The number of students arriving before school opens at 8.30 is on the rise. Please be aware that students who arrive before the gates open will be sent to the library for before school care supervision and you will be charged accordingly.

Please check dates to remember page and calendar on Simon Everywhere for other dates.

Warm Regards

Fiona Dearn - Principal
