PRAYER

By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. The month of October is dedicated to the holy Rosary as the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary falls on October 7th. The best way to celebrate the month is, of course, to pray the Rosary.

The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer. It begins with the Apostles' Creed, which summarises the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. The Our Father, which introduces each mystery, is from the Gospels. The first part of the Hail Mary is the angel's words announcing Christ's birth and Elizabeth's greeting to Mary. The Mysteries of the Rosary centre on the events of Christ's life. There are four sets of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and the Luminous.

Use the Guide below to help your family pray the rosary together during the month of October.  Many incredible miracles have been attributed to the Rosary over the centuries.

TERM 4 RELIGION UNIT

All year levels will begin the term by completing a unit of work which centres around investigating our Catholic Faith through scripture.  This year our focus will be on the Gospel of Matthew, in line with our current liturgical year.  Students will explore and retell the “Feeding of 5000” (Matt 14:13-21) making links between this miracle and the Eucharist.  Classes will explore explore the many Parables told by Jesus which are recounted throughout the Gospel of Matthew.
