Staff will shortly begin the process of allocating students to a class for 2024. This is always complex with many factors coming into play and decisions are never made lightly. If you feel you have information which would assist us when planning class groupings for next year, please note that all requests must be in writing to the Principal by Friday 20th October. Parents are reminded that they are unable to request a specific teacher for their child. While all submissions will be considered, families need to be aware we cannot guarantee we will be able to accommodate your request.
We ask any families who are considering moving house or changing their child’s school in 2024, to contact the office. Please be assured that should your plans change, it will in no way affect your child’s placement for next year.
Thomas Carr College awards a Bursary Award which goes towards covering the cost of School Fees, to one student from each of their feeder primary schools. The student chosen must demonstrate a commitment to study, school life, faith and be of good standing amongst both staff, students and within the community. Equally, the family needs to show that they are committed to the Catholic faith. With this in mind we nominated several of our students who are enrolled in the college for Year 7 2024. The Thomas Carr Board has selected Marietta Binu as the worthy recipient of the bursary fund. Marietta is pictured below receiving her award.
Our Year 5 & 6 students attended a City Camp last week on Tuesday 3rd October and Wednesday 4th October. The two days were jam packed with activities and sightseeing. The students are to be commended for the positive way they approached the many new experiences, including catching a train into the city and walking through crowded city streets. Thank you to the staff who attended camp and spent the night away from their families, without this dedication and commitment we would not be able to offer this experience to our students. Thanks also to Sarah Pullin who joined us for the camp.
St John’s is very excited to have added some new animals to our school collection. Recently we procured two female Bearded Dragons. Whilst these native lizards make great pets, they are protected by law and required the school to purchase a licence in order to buy them from a wildlife dealer. Bearded dragons are found across Australia, typically in arid or semi-arid environments. You notice that the picture of our two bearded dragons has a red hue, this is because their enclosure has been fitted with a heat lamp, which helps them regulate their body temperature in the same way the sun would do if they were in the wild.
The Linewize platform helps schools, students and families to develop better digital habits, while also monitoring and tracking digital usages. With St John’s now working in partnership with Linewize, our parents have access to an Online Safety Parent Hub, via the school’s website. This Hub has a wealth of tips and information for families.
As part of our partnership with Linewize our families will be able to access two licences from Qustodio to apply to their children’s devices, from the 26th October. Qustodio is a parental control app for computers, tablets, and smartphones that helps families to monitor their kids' screen time and prevent them from seeing inappropriate content. Please click on the link below to access a letter that was emailed to families today, explaining Qustodio.
Last term we launched our St John’s Instagram page. To follow us search @stjatarneit on instagram. Recently we highlighted our camp stories and you can check them out under our profile.
It is wonderful to see so many students wearing the new uniform options. Below are links to updated Price Lists for all St John’s uniform items being sold by Rushfords. Please be aware that students may continue to wear any item from the original uniform range. Some of these original pieces are still for sale at Rushfords, at discounted prices until sold out.
My child’s current uniform is in good condition, do I need to buy the new one?
No, as long as your child is in full school uniform, they can wear the current one until you decide to transition across. Remember that the old uniform will not be restocked instore. Once supplies are sold they are no longer available
What days does my child wear the new uniform?
The new uniform is multipurpose therefore it is worn everyday regardless of whether your child has sport or not.
What parts of the new uniform do I buy?
You now just mix and match any combination that you like from the new uniform wardrobe. This means if your child does not feel the cold you do not need to buy the track pants. We hope this will save families money as they are not having to purchase items their child won't want to wear.
Are any current items able to be worn with the new uniform?
Yes, the sports shorts, polo top, soft shell jacket, hat, vest cardigan and jacket can be worn with the new uniform.
What shoes will be worn with the new uniform?
Students must wear runners with the new uniform. These must be predominantly white or black in colour.
Can I replace new uniform items with unbranded items from Kmart, Target, etc?
No, with the reduced cost of the uniform we are expecting families to use the official uniform items which are identified by the school logo.
Can my child wear leggings or long-sleeved undergarments under the uniform for warmth or sun protection?
Yes, however they must be from the official uniform list. These items have now been added to the wardrobe.
