Principal's Update

Mr Paul Clohesy

Welcome back to all of our Trinity community. Here we are at Term 4, which is the culmination of years of hard work and commitment for many of our Year 12 students and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they prepare for their final exams.

I congratulate the students who undertook practice exams over the holidays for their Unit 4 VCE subjects. These sessions provide great support and can help to alleviate anxiety about the examinations that commence on 24 October. We know that our students will do the best they can and whether they are aiming for tertiary education, the workplace, planning a gap year, or an apprenticeship, we wish them the very best.

One of the many blessings of an education at Trinity College is that our graduates leave with so much more than an ATAR or academic or workplace certificates. The Trinity difference will remain with them for life and is captured in their solid understanding of what it means to be a good person. Supported by their family, our students have been immersed in Gospel Values and this points them in the direction of making loving, kind and compassionate choices in their life. They are inspired to be better, do better and make a difference in their own lives and with those around them.

Some of our Year 11 students are currently making a difference at our Palm Island Immersion, led by Mr Patrick Seal. Patrick spent some time in the Palm Island community and has a fantastic relationship with the locals, particularly at St Michael’s Primary School on Great Palm Island where our young people are developing friendships and getting to know more about the Indigenous culture of this collection of islands off the coast of Queensland. It’s a beautiful part of the world and the connection to culture, community, nature, faith and family without distraction provides our students with a unique and unforgettable experience. We are so grateful for these opportunities that are offered to our students – the Immersion ticks all the boxes with our College values and highlights the global bond we enjoy with our fellow Catholic schools.

The final day for our Year 12 students is on Friday 13 October where they will spend the day together before a farewell assembly. It is always a poignant event, laden with possibility, nostalgia and hope, and I am not sure that any of the Class of 2023 understand exactly how much we are invested in their futures. Once a Trinity student, always a Trinity student, and we hope they keep coming back to visit and share their stories because this is their community.

And what a community it is. We are blessed to have previous students on our College School Advisory Council and it’s always intriguing to hear about their days at Trinity. The Council provides a service to the College that is invaluable on so many levels, and we currently have two vacancies available to commence in 2024. The Advisory Council meets seven times a year to provide advice to the Principal and Leadership Team on school matters and play an active role in determining the future direction of Trinity College. Any current parent or carer interested in joining the friendly and supportive council members please submit an expression of interest to principal@tcc.vic.edu.au and the school will make contact with you.

I hope you have a wonderful term.
