Principal's Report

Simone Wood, Principal

Hi Everyone,

Retirement

Having spent just short of 40 years in Education, the time has come.

I wish to inform you of my retirement from the Department of Education and therefore Newham Primary School Principal at the end of this year (technically I will oversee the summer break). The new Principal will begin on the first day of Term 1, 2024.

The Department of Education has begun the process of securing my replacement. Newham Primary School Councillors met with the Regional SEIL at the school council meeting just past and will be involved. As you can understand this process is confidential and will be in progress throughout term 4. Staff and school councillors will not be in a position to answer questions. If you do have any questions, please contact me.

What's coming up in term 4

Term four is going to be a busy one.

There will be a Tour De Newham, based around Bike Ed. We will venture out to Anderson's Road and back to check on our plantings. We have a guitar/keyboard concert, a bush dance and the 2024 Foundation/Prep transitions, Tom Barnes will be visiting us as our CSIRO - scientist in residence, and we have planned a series of 'Craft-ernoons' (please see the flyer in the notices) to name a few. Staff are in the midst of planning the rest of the term so watch this space for these and other interesting activities.

Referendum cake stall/sausage sizzle

Please note that on the 14th October the School will be used as a polling booth for the referendum. On this day Newham Primary School will hold a fundraiser cake stall and sausage sizzle. If you are able to help please see one of our School Councillors; Sarah, Shey  or Tanya. More information will follow soon via uEducateUs.

Congratulations!

Congratualtions to two of our Year 5s Henry and Sabine who have been selected to undertake the Victorian High Abilities Program in Term Four. It is wonderful to know that Newham Primary School regularly has students whom the Department of Education hand pick for this event. Both students will be undertaking an English writing course. We hope you enjoy the opportunity and here's to some fantastic writng!

Thank you!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students from Kyneton High School's VCE sports education partnership program for coming out weekly to support our P.E. classes (a huge thank you also to the staff of Kyneton High for their organisation in getting a mini bus of students to us without fail). It has made such a difference to our students to have someone from the local secondary school be a part of their school life. Being a small school, this program has enhanced our sense of community and belonging. Both groups of students have benefitted from building relationships as well as demonstrating growth in their skill sets. Our students certainly demonstrated growth in their motor skills.  We have also seen a definite increase in student wellbeing with a rise in resilience and problem solving. Our senior students have expressed that they are feeling less anxiety and more excitement about starting high school after meeting them. STOP PRESS!: We have just been informed by KHS that the students will be back in term4 with us for 5 weeks. This is fantastic news!

Do you need a Phone contract for your children

This week the Australian Principal's Federation sent out to its members a very interesting Phone contract that parents at some schools have been using with their children. Perhaps you have seen it, use something like it already or might be interested in adapting it for your own use. It is replicated in the wellbeing section for anyone who is curious.

Have a lovely term break and we will see you back here on Monday 2nd October for the final term of 2023.
