Year 7 to Year 9
Welcome to Term Four! With the start of any new term, the College encourages students to establish realistic goals to work towards over the remainder of the 2023 academic year. Effectively doing this will help grow student confidence in advance of 2024.
We would like to thank our families for ensuring that secondary students were appropriately attired in their summer uniform. Meeting uniform expectations allows staff to dedicate more of their time to teaching. With the UV index certainly intensifying, parents and guardians are asked to please ensure that you are checking in to ensure that your child is implementing adequate Sunsmart measures. It is also very important that students remember to be appropriately hydrated at this time of the year. Numerous researchers emphasise the link between effective hydration and optimised learning. Students are strongly encouraged to have water bottles with them at school.
Year 9 OLNA
In Western Australia, when it comes to graduating from secondary school, the process is commonly referred to as students achieving their WACE (Western Australian Certificate of Education). Parents and guardians should note that meeting this requirement is relatively complex, and that students can address some WACE criteria from Year 9.'
In order to obtain their WACE, students must achieve minimum Literacy and Numeracy standards. Specifically, students are assessed on their Numeracy, Reading and Writing. Students can achieve these through their Year 9 NAPLAN. Following this, students will have six opportunities to meet these standards from Term Four of Year 9 until the end of Year 12 by completing the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA).
Current Year 9 students needing to obtain any Literacy and Numeracy standards will complete their first round of OLNA in week 3 of this term. Students will have this week completed OLNA practice tests in order to ensure that they are familiar with the platform. Further information regarding these practice tests has been emailed to relevant families.
