Foundation
Another round of STEM challenges saw the students this week choose a partner to work with to come up with a structure (using blue tac and straws only) that could support a piece of paper. Lots of great discussions and collaboration on show, with students sharing their ideas with each other.
The plan is to construct a bridge strong enough for a BeeBot top traverse. Although we are coming to an end of the year, there is still plenty of learning taking place!
Year 1
This week the year 1s read a story called The Secret of the Spooky house. The students loved it! They learnt new vocabulary - tantrum, tip toed and whispered. In the story all the baby monster threw a tantrum because he didn't want to eat what his parents had given him. He wanted popcorn! So in the end he got popcorn. So we made some too :) What a treat!
Year 2/3
Hi Families,
I hope you all enjoyed the extra long weekend. I certainly enjoyed the extra time to recover from all the fun I had at the 5/6 camp. What a lovely bunch of students our 5/6’s are and a privilege it was to get to share time with them all. While it was a short week class 2/3 and 3/4 were super lucky to meet with a talented young coding engineer. Her name is Sarah and she works with the company Wayve who are pioneering in automated driving cars. The children worked alongside her via a Google meet as she lives in London and together they coded a car/Bee-Bot to “drive to school”. The children were very engaged and it is great to see them enjoying this experience. Have a wonderful weekend.
Year 3/4
It has been a busy week in Year 3/4. It started last Thursday (week 5) when we had the children from Nino's Early Learning Centre come to our school for a play. The weather was great, so we played outside on the adventure playground, as well as with a variety of balls and the soccer goals. We then finished with a platter of fruit.
Then after an extra long weekend, we were so lucky to have a special guest all the way from London via zoom on Thursday (week 6). Sarah, a coding engineer, who is part of a company that is working on 'Automated Driving Cars', joined us. Sarah was able to talk with the children about the use of AI in driving cars. She also set up a short coding exercise to code the movement of a car around a grid map. It was a wonderful experience for the students to be able to talk with an actual Coding Engineer as well as someone on the other side of the world. A big thank you to Terri for organising this for us.
Year 4/5
Ciao! Mi chiamo Chloe.
In Italian, we have been learning about Italy, its culture, and history. Italy has twenty beautiful regions, each with its own traditions and cibo delizioso (delicious food).
Mi piace imparare tutto sul Natale. I miei nonno e nonna faranno una grande festa a Natale. Mi piace molto imparare l’italiano!
Year 5/6
As we progress through the last of the semester in 2025, thoughts for our students in the senior area turn to the next big thing in their lives as a student ~ Graduation from Sacred Heart and transition to the next chapter, their secondary education.
For the Year 5 students it is a time to reflect on their level of responsibility and how they would like to help lead the school next year. Leadership opportunities have already been given out and enthusiastically been taken up. Thanks to Natalie, Raffaele and Katalina for organising a lunchtime netball game when the Year 6 students were on excursion to the Melbourne Museum. Thanks to Luke in Year 4 for umpiring a game of soccer amongst the Year F-2 students and for giving up his own time. Much appreciated Luke. Thanks also to Lawrence, Suzie, Georgia and Aisha for giving up some of their playtime to sell icypoles and make some money for the school.
To all of you mentioned, you have been impressive in your willingness to help out and lead others at our school. Leadership positions will be made available very soon. Well done, guys!
