French

Prep

Students have been learning about farm animals in French and comparing the noises we make in English to represent animals, and the noises they make in French to represent animals. In English, we might say a duch goes 'quack', but in French a duck goes 'coin' (pronounced quwan). Students have been exploring this aspect of culture and comparing both sounds to the real animal sound. It has been fun learning about animals sounds with them and singing the French version of 'Old MacDonals Has a Farm'. Students have been playing vocabulary games to consolidate language such as memory and 'guess the animal' using playdough.

Grade 1/2

Students have been rehearsing for their Billy Goats Gruff plays, Les Trois Boucs Bourrus. All students now have a role in their mini play, and we have been reading through their scripts and talking about pronunciation. Students will be assessed on their ability to read French words, remember French words from a previously learnt list, and having a go at reading unknown French words. They will perform their plays in class over the coming weeks and I'm very much looking forward to seeing them!

Grade 3/4

Studets have been learning about animals and discussing if they are endangered or not endangered. We have been learning vocabulary to descrbe the animals and talk about their status. Students have played charades to consolidate new vocabulary, and will create mini posters about an endangered animal in French.

Grade 5/6

These past few weeks in French we have been doing a cultural study, inquiring into the Tour de France bicycle race. Studets have learnt about the race and compared it to similar events here in Australia such as the Cadel Evans race on the Great Ocean Road. They are currently creating their own australian version of the tour de France, the Tour d'Australie and wil come up with a route that is also roughly 3,500km. Students are labelling their race in French, describing the type of terrain the riders will go through, and they will create their own jerseys similar to those worn in the Tour de France.
