STEM

Thank you for all of the cupboard additions to our STEM room over the last few weeks. We would appreciate the continued donations of cereal box style cardboard- thin and easy to cut.
TINY TOWN Continues...
Each year level is working on creating a sustainable tiny town or in some cases cities. Each year level is working on something similar but a little different. It is an incredible process to witness as designs become concrete materials and students engage in conversations around what should and should not be prioritised in a community.
Prep
In Tiny Town world, our students have been creating trees and transport lines. The insert and flange method has been taught and practised. Students have selected between roads, bike lanes and train lines, marking them using icy pole sticks and creating a set to use in the coming weeks in their tiny towns.
As a mini side project while our Tiny Town surface is being laid, students have participated in seed paper making. We used our abundance of egg cartons to make a pulp and students have used harvested seeds from the garden to sprinkle in and create seed bombs to share in the future.

Students have been busily designing and building their Tiny Towns. They have created their surfaces, laid their tracks and using a criteria and points check list they are working hard to achieve at least 100 points. Students have needed to collaborate with each other and identify if the needs of their community are being met. Students have had to justify their choices and incorporate sustainable elements that benefit their community.
It has been incredible to listen to their justifications and watch them create so many innovative ideas, all out of cardboard.

Each team has a kit of LEDs and a battery and have been shown how to create a circuit with foil and paperclips.
