Junior School

Year 1

This week, Year 1 enjoyed reading the story of The Little Red Hen, which inspired a creative art lesson. The children experimented with different printing techniques using small Lego bricks, exploring new ways to make art and letting their imaginations run free.

We also made the most of some beautiful sunshine by heading outdoors for fun games and fresh air. It was wonderful to see everyone working together and showing great teamwork. Our speedy maths sessions have kept us thinking fast while having fun with numbers!

A recent highlight was our amazing excursion to the Cobden Miniature Railways and Mini Golf. The children had a fantastic time riding the little trains and playing mini golf together. There was great excitement when two students scored a hole in one, and lots of cheers for those who managed a hole in four! Before returning to school, we enjoyed extra fun with bubble wands and a treasure hunt, searching for special items in the environment. It was the perfect way to finish a day full of adventure, learning, and laughter.

Year 2

Last week Year 2 had their very first school camp! It was two days and one night full of fun, excitement, laughter and some nerves. Year 2 stayed the night at Warra Gnan Coastal Camp and engaged in various outdoor activities (despite the cold and windy weather) such as shell hunting, sandcastle creations, beach games, an Amazing Race, a movie night and so much more!

On the way back from camp, we stopped past the Capitol Cinema and met Ivan (the cinema's projectionist who has worked in the industry for over 50 years). Ivan talked about how technology has changed over time and gave us a special tour of the projection room and the cinema's old stage!

I'm incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and kindness that each student displayed toward one another. They were a delight to be with and many special memories were made. Well done Year 2 on a very successful first camp, and I look forward to hearing about all their other camps to come in future years!

Year 3

Year 3 have been busy in the last fortnight and have had some different experiences. We visited the senior school for a lesson with Mr Robertson about rocks last week. We looked at some impressive rocks and learnt that a lot of our rocks along the coast are actually from Mount Rouse, that we will be visiting next week.

On Friday we went to Tower Hill and had a memorable experience being inside a volcano full of different rocks and soil! We had a super interesting walk with Mrs Jones, who taught us about bush tucker, allowing us to safely sample some of this, and the incredible uses of this by Aboriginal people. She also taught us the local Aboriginal language names for some of the native animals that we saw at Tower Hill. After the walk, we tried some Wattle Seed Ice Cream that most of us found was quite delicious!

We had a great day and want to send a big thank you to Mr Zeunert for driving the bus, Mrs Jones for the tour, Mrs Toprak for bringing her car and keeping us organised with drinks, fruit and bags and Hannah Bellamy who was a great help in keeping us all safe. Mrs Gittins brought along a whole heap of activities for us to use at Tower Hill and took a lot of time to plan how to keep us busy, and Miss Kenna also did a wonderful job of keeping us all happily fed and watered.

Back at school, we have really dived into our science, looking at soil, rocks and minerals more closely and discovering how they are created!

Year 4

In Term 4 Christian Studies, students have been reading through the gospel of John, learning about the early ministry of Jesus. Each week we have been captivated as we read miracles of healing diseases, healing children, multiplying food, calming storms and even raising from the dead - WOW!

Last week, students focused on the miracle of the blind man who recieved his sight thanks to Jesus. They created an artwork capturing the darkness he experienced before contrasting with what he would have experienced afterwards.

Year 4/5

It has been a busy few weeks in Year 4/5. We have been doing Maths investigations involving chance and probability. Students have been creating their own carnival games to show fair and unfair outcomes. There have been a lot of creative juices flowing and some interesting games being produced.

We have continued our great work in the Senior Science lab, discovering the properties of light and how it travels. We are also getting into the rehearsals for our end of year celebrations and getting very excited to perform for you in December.

Year 6

Recently in Year 6, we have been writing letters to our friends in Year 5 and informing them about what to expect in Year 6. We started by brainstorming all the things that we do and have in Year 6 that are different from Year 5 and recording them on the board. We then learnt about the format of a letter and the sorts of phrasing and paragraphing we should use and then we started writing.

Our letters are at least one typed page long and we have told them about all sorts of things like the Year 6 camp at Phillip Island, the different things that Mrs Robertson includes when she runs a classroom like spinning things up, Language Rotations, Maths Games, Tables Bingo, Stamps and Toolbox and changing tables. We also wrote about excursions we've been on like ScienceWorks, and the responsibilities and jobs we have like being school captains, running assemblies and collecting recycling.

Some of us still have our letters that we were given from last year's Year 6 class. We hope that the letters we have written are just as meaningful to the students that get them this year.

Food Tech

This week, our Year 6 students completed their Food Technology assessment and what a fantastic effort it was! They began by carefully following a recipe to make delicious savoury scrolls, demonstrating their ability to read instructions, measure ingredients accurately, and work safely in the kitchen.

For their second piece of pastry, students were challenged to get creative and they certainly rose to the occasion! From plaits and twists to intricate shapes and decorative designs, the results were both impressive and imaginative.

Well done to all our budding chefs for their enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork in the kitchen this week!
