Snapshots from the week

Seasonal Sips š¹
Our Hospitality students wrapped up the term in style with a Seasonal Sips event ā creating and serving their own mocktails and nibbles for classmates to enjoy. A great way to celebrate their skills in presentation, flavour pairing, and customer service!
Remembrance Day
On Tuesday, our students represented Balmoral State High School with pride and respect at Bulimba Memorial Park. Their participation and conduct were outstanding, reflecting the values of our school community.
Ā
We thank all students and staff involved for their commitment to honouring those who have served and sacrificed.
The Debating Cup
Our star debaters have been competing in an intraschool debating competition over the last few weeks. This week saw the superb 8.3 team take out the win in a hard-fought debate against 8.1, arguing that the school week should be four days.Ā
Ā
A big thank you also to our Year 10 adjudicators for giving up their breaktimes to make the competition happen.
Airservices Australia ATC Guest Presentation ā Reflection
Today, our Aerospace Systems students had the privilege of hearing from Stefan, an experienced Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower Supervisor and Service Lead from Brisbane Tower, who brought over 25 years of industry experience to the classroom.
Ā
Stefan delivered an engaging presentation that explored the critical role of Air Traffic Control in maintaining the safety and efficiency of Australiaās airspace. Through a series of videos and detailed explanations, students gained a strong understanding of how controllers coordinate aircraft movements, manage handoffs between control sectors, and ensure safe separation during all phases of flight.
Ā
He also provided valuable insight into the technology and instruments used in modern ATC operations, demonstrating the latest suite of systems (DATC) and communication tools currently being implemented at Brisbane Tower. One of the highlights of the session was his first-hand account of managing a recent in-flight engine fire, giving students a rare look at real-world safety management, communication protocols, and coordination with emergency services.
Ā
The session concluded with a lively Q&A, where students connected Stefanās professional insights to their current airport design assignment, particularly through discussion of the Brisbane Airport Future Project.
Ā
This incursion was an outstanding opportunity for students to engage with an industry professional and to deepen their understanding of air traffic services, safety systems, and operational procedures that underpin every successful flight. We are grateful to Airservices Australia and to our Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools Program (AGISP) partnership for making this learning experience possible.
Uniform Advisory Reference Group Meetings
Ā
Over the past two weeks, our Uniform Advisory Reference Group has met with students, families and staff to listen carefully to a wide range of perspectives about the Balmoral State High School student dress code. These conversations have focused on ensuring our uniform continues to reflect our values of Agency, Belonging and Innovation, while remaining practical, inclusive and affordable for all families.
Ā
We are now summarising Ā feedback from student forums, parent/carer representatives and staff. This feedback is being brought together into a set of clear recommendations, which will be summarised and presented to the P&C Executive and the Principal for consideration in the coming weeks.
Ā
We thank all students, parents/carers and staff who have contributed their time, ideas and constructive feedback to this process. Your voices are helping us shape a uniform policy that supports pride in our school, a strong sense of belonging and high expectations for all Balmoral students.
