Step-Up Day

Next Wednesday, 10 December, our students will experience Step-Up Day, an exciting and important part of our transition program. On this day, students will spend time in their 2026 learning group, meeting their new classmates, engaging in ‘getting to know you’ activities, and becoming familiar with their new learning space. This introduction to their 2026 learning space is designed to build confidence, reduce uncertainty, and help students feel prepared and positive about the year ahead.

On Tuesday afternoon, students will bring home a class placement slip that outlines their 2026 classroom teacher. These placements have been thoughtfully developed by our teaching and leadership teams, drawing on a wide range of information including academic and wellbeing needs, learning styles, peer relationships, and the insights shared by families throughout the year. We thank you for your trust in this process and the time required to create balanced and supportive learning environments for all students.

As we approach Step-Up Day, parents can play a valuable role in helping their child feel comfortable and confident about the transition. Simple conversations at home can make a big difference; encourage your child to share what they are looking forward to, remind them of times they have successfully managed new experiences, and reassure them that it is completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves. Keeping routines calm, predictable, and positive in the days leading up to Step-Up Day can also help children feel settled. If your child expresses worries, listen with reassurance and let them know that their teachers are ready to support them.

Transition is an important part of every child’s school journey, and we are committed to ensuring each student feels safe, known and supported. We are looking forward to a wonderful Step-Up Day next week and an energising start to the 2026 school year.
