Year 5/6 Student English Update

In Year 5 English, we are currently doing a ‘Passion Project,’ and so far we are going pretty good. We made a plan and wrote down lots of ideas for our passion project on a piece of paper. We wrote down everything we love and chose a topic. Then we made a plan where we wrote down everything we know about our topic. We are planning to complete lots of different writing pieces, all about our passion. My passion project is all about gymnastics.

In the second week of the Passion Project, we made poems of our passion project. We made ballads and raps. We used this website called SUNO and made a song with our ballads. SUNO is an AI app where you put lyrics in, and then they design a song for you. In my opinion, the voice is horrible, and I really didn’t like the song, but at the same time, it was really funny how AI could turn a few words into a full-on song.– Evelynn L, Year 5

A Passion Project is something you’re passionate about. It could be anything that you like or something you like doing. A Passion Project needs to be informative and include lots of detail. Usually, Passion Projects are teaching you how to do something, but also it could tell you all about the topic. My favourite thing about writing a Passion Project is how you can write anything you want! My Passion Project is about collecting cards.

We also had to use AI to make a chorus for our ballad and simplify the words and make it make sense. After, we made an acrostic poem about our ballad/passion project. It turned out to be actually really fun and good. While I was doing this, I learnt how to make a ballad and an acrostic poem. It is useful.– Cindy T, Year 5

In Year 6, we have been working on a project called our ARPS Journey, beginning with drawing a poster of all the things we have been doing throughout our many years at ARPS. We made a draft in our workbooks, designing it however we want as long as it includes the best things we’ve done during our soon-to-be seven years here. The grades we should be including are Foundation, Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and finally, Year 6. For example, in Year 4, we went to DOXA camp, which was a really nice memory for those who hadn’t ever gone camping yet, like me! We have also been working on a project where we must write a rap, diary entry, narrative, and comic about different events that happened in four different years of our choice. Everyone’s choices are different, mine being about lockdown, Market Day, Being Up to Standards, and camp.– Krystal T, Year 6
