Student Leader: Veeya

Student Leader Spotlight: Veeya
Veeya—a funny, kind, and caring Year 12 student whose leadership journey is rooted in compassion, connection and a drive to uplift others.
From Sherwood Ridge to Science and Strategy
Veeya began her schooling at Sherwood Ridge Public School and now tackles the HSC with a powerhouse subject lineup: Biology, Chemistry, Math Advanced, English Standard, Business Studies, and Design and Technology. Her academic choices reflect a sharp analytical mind and a curiosity for both the natural world and innovative design.
Leading with Heart and Purpose
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Veeya has embraced her role with a clear mission: to be the role model she once needed. Her involvement in programs like Duke of Edinburgh and Hills Relay for Life shows a commitment to service and community, while her leadership style is grounded in empathy and encouragement. “I want to help and inspire the younger students.”
Friendship as a Foundation
When asked about her proudest accomplishment, Veeya doesn’t hesitate: “Meeting everyone and making new friends.” It’s a simple yet powerful reflection of her belief that leadership is about building relationships and creating a sense of belonging.
Staying Ahead, Staying Grounded
Balancing school, leadership, and life is no small feat, but Veeya has a strategy: stay ahead. “With all my classes I aim to be ahead so it’s less rush and work for me in the future,” she explains. If she misses something in class, she catches up after school—proof of her dedication and time management.
A Leader Who Listens
Veeya hopes her peers know one thing above all: “I will always be there for them and will always lend a hand.” Her leadership is not about being in charge—it’s about being present, being kind, and being someone others can count on.
Growing Through Leadership
Taking on leadership has helped Veeya grow in unexpected ways. “It’s made me more extroverted,” she says, “I do want to get to know everyone and be friends with everyone.” Her openness and warmth have made her a connector across year groups.
Wisdom for Future Leaders
To younger students considering leadership, Veeya offers heartfelt advice: “Being a leader isn’t just about being number 1. It’s never about that. It’s always about being kind, respectful and always there for people. To always help those who need it and to help make a change and leave a strong impact.”
Legacy of Kindness and Change
As graduation approaches, Veeya hopes to leave behind a legacy that speaks volumes: “I hope people look at the school and say ‘wow, the 2026 leadership team really changed the school for the better.” It’s a vision of transformation through kindness and collaboration.
Looking Ahead
After Year 12, Veeya plans to study Biotechnology at UTS, finish university, and build a successful career. Her goal? “Get a job and be rich”—a dream powered by ambition, intelligence, and a generous spirit.
