Junior Secondary Superstars!
Wow! Our Junior Secondary students have been BUSY learning and having an absolute blast this term!
English Fun
Get ready, parents and carers, Christmas letters are coming! Students are reading persuasive texts and writing their own persuasive letters about what Christmas gifts they'd love most. They're learning all the best reasons and tricks to make their case. These letters are pretty convincing.
We're also working on colourful semantics, looking at pictures and finding the WHO, DOING WHAT, WHERE, and WHEN. It's helping us understand and build better sentences. Plus, exciting news, we're learning our final single letter sounds!
Maths Magic
Our students have been estimating and measuring familiar objects in our classroom using blocks and paperclips! We're discovering which things are 'short' and 'long,' and using scales to work out what's 'heavy' and 'light.' Hands-on measuring is so much fun!
We're continuing to cook. Students are measuring ingredients, counting, comparing quantities, and working with fractions. Cooking brings maths to life in the yummiest way possible!
Science Experiments
Lights, shadows, ACTION! Students are exploring natural and artificial light through practical experiments. Using torches and our Lightbox, they're discovering how light and shadows work. So many cool "aha!" moments happening!
Icy Pole Friday
Every Friday is extra special thanks to 8B Green. They're completing internal work experience by selling icy poles from the Monty Cafe and raising funds for equipment for the senior yard. Students can buy an icy pole on Fridays, just send them with a gold coin to grab a cool treat and support this great cause!
Our Junior Secondary students are working hard and achieving amazing things every day. We couldn't be prouder!
Senior Secondary Standouts!
Bronze Star Swim and Survive Program
Our Senior Secondary students have been having a fantastic time learning water safety with the Bronze Star Swim and Survive program!
Students started their training at our school pool before heading to the Norlane Aquatic Recreation Centre (NARC) to continue their journey.
This program is all about building essential water safety and swimming skills. Students have been working on their swimming strokes, practising floating, and feeling more comfortable moving through the water. They've also been learning important survival techniques, including rescuing an unconscious swimmer, performing rescues using a flotation device and kickboard, using a spinal board in the water, and learning how to signal for help when in trouble in the water. These are valuable life skills that students can use forever!
Through the Bronze Star program, students are becoming stronger swimmers and growing more confident in the water. The supportive environment has helped them feel proud of what they're achieving, and it's been wonderful to watch their progress!
We're so proud of our Senior Secondary students for giving it a go and learning these important skills.
A huge thank you to Mary, our staff, and volunteers for supporting our students throughout this program, and to the team at NARC for being so welcoming!
