Worms

Worms are common, especially in school aged children and often do not cause symptoms. There are many different types of intestinal worms, but the most common is threadworm (pinworm).
Worm infections can cause itchiness around the bottom, inflammation, restlessness and nausea/vomiting. Sometimes, you can see the worms in the stool and it can also cause abdominal pain. The good news is, worms are usually easily treatable, with medication sold without a prescription from a pharmacist. It is also important to treat all members of the family, to prevent reinfections. You can help prevent worms by practicing good hygiene, with regular handwashing (especially before eating), frequent showers/baths and clean clothing.
