Welcome to Preps 2026

This week we welcomed our 2026 Prep students for a second transition to school morning. There were many excited faces and lots of experiences to share.

Transition to school allows potential school beginners to have an experience of being in the classroom with their 2026 classmates. It provides an understanding of school life, their classroom and future teachers. Students engaged in a variety of fun learning activities giving them a sense of what learning and being at school looks like, sounds like and feels like. They participated confidently, listening, drawing and dancing and we look forward to them returning next week for a third and final session.

At St Martin de Porres, we believe that successful transitions are the foundation for thriving learners. Transition experiences help children build confidence, develop a sense of belonging and establish positive relationships with peers and teachers before their formal schooling begins. They ease the uncertainty of change, nurture independence and ensure that every child feels safe, supported and ready to learn. By investing in strong transitions, we set our students up for success, academically, socially and emotionally, so they can flourish from their very first day of Prep.

Student Reports

End of year reports will be emailed to families by 5pm on Monday, December 8th, 2025.

Reports provide formal feedback on your child’s learning for Semester 2. At St Martin de Porres, we strive to make our reports personalised so that families gain a clear picture of their child as both a learner and a valued class member.

Our reports are designed to explain your child’s progress and expected level of achievement at the end of the year, while also highlighting their strengths and areas for growth. They are not just a record of achievement, but an opportunity to celebrate effort, persistence and the unique qualities each child brings to our community.

An important part of assessment and reporting is the chance for families to praise, encourage and support their child. Please take time to sit together, read and discuss the report, and acknowledge both the successes and the challenges, it is through these conversations that children feel proud, motivated and ready to keep learning.

Reports should be read alongside your child’s online learning journal, Seesaw. This provides rich evidence of learning through curriculum expectations, learning intentions and success criteria.

The report indicates the standards achieved in various curriculum areas and shows your child’s previous achievement in each area since last assessed. Achievement in English, Mathematics and Personal and Interpersonal Learning is reported every six months, while other curriculum areas are reported either six or twelve months depending on our two-year Inquiry Conceptual Framework.

If you would like clarification about your child’s progress, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Teachers have set aside Thursday, December 11th from 3:30pm–5pm for parent learning conversations after reports are released. If you wish to book a time, please contact your child’s teacher directly via email or Seesaw before December 10th. Teachers may also reach out to families to organise a conversation before the year ends.

We thank you for the way you support your child’s learning journey at SMDP. Together, we celebrate their achievements and continue to nurture their growth.
