3/4 News

Welcome Back!

We can't believe that we have began term 4 - this year is flying by! It has been wonderful to see how much students have grown upon their return from holidays! This week has been a busy one and it doesn't look like we will be slowing down any time soon!

Novel Study

This term we are reading the novel 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. The novel tells a story about Michael who ends up washed up on a desert island with no food, no water and only his dog for company. When he wakes, there is a plate beside him of fish, of fruit and a bowl of fresh water.

Inquiry

Our whole school topic this term is 'Creativity'. For 3/4's our unit is called 'Frame By Frame' and will see students practise thinking creatively as they develop a simple story and characters, settings, and props for their story.  They will draw a storyboard that depicts the most interesting scene from their story idea and use the storyboard to make a stop motion animation. Our students will build a set and a prop, and capture images for their stop motion animation.  They will edit their animation using a computer and present their animation at the Creativity Expo.

Maths

For the next couple of weeks, students will be exploring angles.

Visit from Col Pearse

Here are some recounts from students of Col's visit:

Today we had Col Pearse come to Tongala Primary School. It was really cool, but at the age of 2, Col's right foot was run over by a lawn mower. He spent 6 days in hospital. In those 6 days, Cols foot was amputated. Col said that he doesn't remember much of that time because he was so young. He told us how he dealt with bullies when he was younger. Col said that he wrote his goals down in grade 4 and because of that, he never gave up. He just kept training hard every day.

Did you know that the 2024 silver medals from the Paralympic games have a piece of the Eiffel Tower in them! I was lucky enough to have 2 photos taken with Col!

I love that Col Pearse is so brave! He never gives up and always keeps trying. I like how he writes down his goals and that he has achieved them. Col is local to the area so most people know him. He has lots of medals, so he has been going really well! One of his medals was even made out of the Eiffel Tower! - Heidi

Today Col Pearse visited my school. It was very cool! I got to hold his medals. We also got to hold his prosthetic foot/leg. I loved it so so much! - Maya B
