Inclusion & Engagement
Zones of Regulation is a great framework that every classroom at MRPS uses to help students recognise and label their emotions. This includes giving students the phrases and words they can use to be able to verbalise how they are feeling. The students are taught some explicit strategies on how to regulate themselves when they are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, angry, sad or silly.
These are the four main zones:

Each classroom has a different way to check in with students to see how they are feeling as they get ready to learn. Some of the strategies that help student regulate their emotions and return to the green zone are:
- drinking water
- deep breaths
- 5 min brain break
- fidget toys (stress ball)
- physical exercise
- headphones
- talking with someone they trust
