Week 3, Term 4

Performing Arts

Prep

Students are continuing to explore dance in performing arts classes. This week they will explore big and small movements and how to use space in dance. 

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students are continuing to focus on drama in performing arts classes. This week they will explore how to create a scene using freeze frames and sculptures. They will use these skills to begin exploring the story and characters in the picture book, 'The Day the Crayons Quit'.

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students are continuing with their focus on music in performing arts classes. This week they are continuing to gain a feel for groups of 4 beats. Students will learn to graphically divide beats in groups of 4 (bars) and they will also create a 4-bar rhythm piece.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students are continuing to focus on music in their performing arts classes. This week they will explore the lyric structure of a song and have a go at writing their own lyrics.

 

Physical Education

Prep PE

This week, we will continue to focus on the side arm strike. Students will be encouraged to closely watch the ball with their eyes and strike the ball with the palm of their hand or racquet.  

 

Prep Sensory

In this week’s Sensory Gym sessions, students will enjoy a selection of activities and exercises designed to improve their balance, core strength and hand-eye coordination.

 

Grade 1 and 2

This week, we will focus on the side arm strike. Students will be encouraged to closely watch the ball when striking with their hand or a racquet. They will practice striking a stationary and moving ball.

 

Grade 3 and 4

We will continue to focus on the sport of Hockey. Students will consolidate key skills of the game, including the trap, flick pass and puck handling.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Hockey will continue to be the focus of Physical Education. Students will enjoy playing in a modified game, whilst revising the key skills of trapping, passing and puck handling. They will be encouraged to take small steps to adjust their position relative to the incoming puck/ball.

Auslan

Prep

Prep students will begin to explore the signs for the letters of the alphabet. They will participate in various games to help develop this knowledge.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students have begun to investigate the Auslan signs for zoo animals. They will play various games to consolidate this learning and will practise signing the phrase: ‘I’m going to the zoo. I want to see…’

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students are learning the Auslan signs for various weather-related words. They will be writing a simple script for a weather report where they will use these signs to ‘report’ on the weather.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students will be learning directional signs. They will use these signs to give directions to a partner to help them follow a path around a fictious map.

STEM

Grade 1 and 2 

This week students will consolidate their knowledge about the 5 senses and how they help them interact with the world around them.  They will begin to specifically explore the concepts of sight and light.

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will explore magnetic force by learning how magnets attract certain objects and repel others. They will experiment with a variety of materials, such as metals, plastics, and fabrics, to determine which are magnetic.

 

Grade 5 and 6  

Students will review their knowledge of the structure of the earth and investigate the layers of the earth's atmosphere. They will also begin planning their research project on their chosen natural disaster. 

Visual Arts

Prep

Students will be finishing off their Secret Name Painting by adding pattern details and use magiclay to mould the shapes of lines the letters. 

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will begin to construct their outer space sculpture, spray painting the background and foreground to make it look like the surface of a planet. They will finish off their space creatures and cut them out ready to attach next week. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will create the papier mâché layer of their ice-cream cone, layering newspaper with a flour and water ‘glue’ to solidify their armature. 

 

Grade 5

Students will learn how to sew a blanket stitch around the perimeter of their Buddy Bear, focussing on threading their needle, knotting the end of their thread and pulling gently with each stitch. 

 

Grade 6

Students will be finishing off their clay legacy tile and beginning to work on their Graduation Portrait. They will take a photo of themselves and trace their main facial features onto acetate paper.
