Junior Music Festival
For the past term and a half, students have been learning how to put together a rock performance for their Classroom Music Curriculum Assessment Task. This has included learning how to play the instruments, learning the piece of music, how the music all fits together, and how to perform to an audience (including stage presence and managing stage fright). This culminated in Tuesday’s Junior Music Festival which saw all the year 7s and 8s perform.
The year 7s took the stage first and played rock classics such as ACDC’s ‘Back In Black’, TLC’s ‘No Scrub’, Smashmouth’s ‘All Star’, and Eurythmics ‘Sweet Dreams’ with 7E taking home the year 7 trophy for their outstanding performance of Miley Cyrus’s ‘Party in the USA’.
The Wangaratta High School Session Band took the stage for the interval performing Green Day’s ‘Holiday’ – a piece they recorded on our school CD earlier this year.
With tough acts to follow, the Year 8s didn’t shy away from the limelight. They gave colourful and resounding renditions of Belinda Carlisle’s ‘Heaven is a Place on Earth’, Coldplay’s ‘Sky full of Stars’, Foo Fighter’s ‘Everlong’, and Eminem’s ‘Houdini’. With an epic guitar solo from Gus Hedderman, 8E (self-titled The Bradley Bangers) snatched the year 8 trophy with Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Living on a Prayer’.
A big thank you to all the judges and staff who helped on the day.
Congratulations to the VET sound production team for their huge efforts in setting this up – no easy task! – and well done to everyone who performed!
