Chev Need to Knows
18 October 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been wonderful to welcome our students back for Term 4 this week, and this busy final term of the school year is well underway. Our Year 12 students are progressing through their HSC exams with calm stoicism and dedication, and in the meantime our Year 11, and new cohort of Year 12, 2025 leaders, are settling into their roles leading the student body.
For parents who have children in Years 7 or 8, or children in their final years of primary school, I share with you details of an upcoming FREE eSafety webinar provided by the Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT, with the goal of helping children stay safer online.
‘Supporting healthy tech use as your child transitions into high school’
The 30-minute webinar takes place on Tuesday 12 November from 12.30pm – 1.00pm (lunch and learn!) and explores the social pressures, peer influences and technological challenges young people face as they transition and settle into high school. It also offers practical strategies for navigating online friendships and connections to help minimise negative experiences.

In other news, the Steering Committee has now been established, and we look forward to working with this group of students, staff and parents to refine and develop our future facing priorities at the College. In next week’s edition of Need to Knows, we will confirm the parent representatives on that Steering Committee which is due to have their first meeting on Monday 28 October.
To all Chevalier families, I trust this weekend is restful.
Kind Regards
Greg Miller
Principal

Uniforms
The Uniform Shop will be open at the following times for students to purchase sports team uniforms. Please note that the Chev Shop is not open on Monday, and students will have to bring money, or have access to a credit/debit card themselves as no payments can be taken over the phone.
Girls: Monday 21 October Break 1 and 2
Boys team uniforms were distributed on Wednesday 16 October. If your son did not purchase their uniform on Wednesday, they will need to visit the Chev Shop on Thursday or Friday during the breaks to purchase a uniform in time for the first round.
Students must have necessary uniform items before ISA Round 1 on Saturday 26 October 2024.
Permission notes
Sports team permission notes are due now. Students will not be permitted to participate in training, games or travel without a completed permission note.
Permission notes can be accessed via Parent Orbit/Events and Payments.
Home and away schedule and fixtures
The Home and Away schedule can be viewed in Parent Orbit/School Links/Extra Curricular. Weekly fixtures will be loaded to the same location by Wednesday each week.
A review of the supply of sky-blue Hoodies as a commemorative item for students on 1sts sporting teams has recently been conducted. This review considered the history of Blue Hoodies, input from the Leadership Team, as well as input from 2024 student leaders. As a result, it was considered that the relevant team uniform is a more appropriate commemorative item for students to take with them when they conclude their season, as compared to the Blue Hoodies. As such, the College will supply the following items for students in place of the Hoodie beginning Summer 24/25:
Cricket: 1st’s Cap
Touch Football: Playing singlet
Basketball: Playing singlet
Netball: Playing dress
Football: Playing jersey
Rugby: Playing jersey
Tennis: Playing shirt
Hockey: Playing shirt
We will trial this approach for the 2024/25 Summer season and 2025 Winter season.
Expressions of interest are now being taken from students who would like to be involved in the annual Daramalan vs Chevalier Water Polo Challenge which will take place on Monday 25 November.
Students can register for the day here: https://forms.office.com/r/NEGbXgX84Z
Expressions of Interest will close Wednesday 23 October.
