Some words from the Principal
Mrs Danielle Heatley
I can't believe that we are nearly 1/2 way through Term 4. I hope that the calendar sent out in the last few weeks helps plan for this very busy time of year.
Last Friday, we took a moment to recognise the tremendous hard work and dedication of our teachers! While we don’t need a special occasion to remember the tireless efforts our teachers put in to support every child’s success, it’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate each one of them. Every day, I’m reminded of how fortunate we are at Karoo to have such dedicated, knowledgeable, thoughtful, compassionate, and positive group of educators. (I could continue to go on!) I am deeply grateful for each of them and the invaluable contributions they make to our wonderful community.
A huge thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help with our upcoming Bunnings BBQ! I will email you next week confirming your time slot and details of the day. Your
support and generosity make events like these possible, and we’re incredibly grateful for your time and effort. While we, unfortunately, won’t be able to run the cake stall this time due to limited numbers, we hope to see everyone come down to Scoresby Bunnings on November 9th to grab a delicious sausage and support our school. Every sausage sold makes a difference, helping us fund valuable programs and resources for our students. Our next fundraising target is to enhance the Science building and area next to the new outdoor classroom. Whether you’re volunteering or stopping by for a snack, your participation means a lot to us.
Transition for 2025 began this week and it was so wonderful to welcome the next cohort of students. During this time the students enjoyed some classroom sessions with our current Foundation teachers and were supported by some wonderful Year 4 students who will be their buddies in 2025. While the students were having a taste of school life, the parents enjoyed a parent education session highlighting the wellbeing initiatives at Karoo.
As mentioned in previous Compass posts, Year 3-6 teachers who attended camp or State School Spectacular will not be in attendance at school on Monday 4th November. Please be advised that on this day regular classes will NOT be running for Year 3-6 and they need to come to the gym in the morning. Students in Year 1/2 C and Foundation D will go to their classrooms to meet a member of leadership, who will then arrange alternative supervision. Year 3 - 6 students who attend will be placed in F-2 classes with an alternative learning program for the day. Regular class teachers will not be available in Year 3-6 as they are having the day in replacement of time in lieu from attending camps in 2024.
All students have been and will continue to reflect on the new connections they’ve made with peers and their personal growth over the 2024 school year. As part of the process of preparing for the transition into 2025, students work with their teacher to confidentially nominate learning partners that they feel they work best with in the classroom environment for the subsequent year. Please spend some time looking through the presentation all classes have/are reviewing this week/s before they identify their best learning partners. This is also done as a whole cohort so that they look around to all students in the year level, not just their current class. Please click on the attachment to see the social story that teachers shared with their year level before students identify their learning partners.
Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you around the school as we head to the 2nd part of Term 4
Warm regards,
Danielle Heatley
