Australian Mathematics Competition

This week selected high ability students in Years 3-6 will take place in the Australian Maths Trust Competition.

First run in 1978, the Australian Mathematics Competition is Australia’s longest running, largest and most well-known maths competition for school students.

The AMC contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend your students’ problem-solving skills.

We congratulate all participants on being selected and wish them all the very best in their endeavours.

We look forward to sharing our students' achievements with our school community later in the year.

Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

What is an Individual Education Plan (IEP)?

An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is a personalised learning plan that outlines specific goals and strategies to support a student’s learning and wellbeing. It is developed collaboratively by the classroom teacher, support staff, the student, and their parents or carers.

In Victorian government schools, an IEP is usually created when a student requires targeted support that goes beyond the regular classroom program. This may include:

  • Students in Out of Home Care
  • Students with a disability or additional learning needs
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • Students identified as at risk of disengaging from school or who require significant adjustments to their learning
  • Students who are working 12 months or more below the expected level in literacy and/or numeracy
  • Students who are working 18 months above the expected level in literacy and/or numeracy

An IEP helps ensure that learning is tailored to the student’s strengths, needs, and interests. It includes clear, measurable goals and outlines how teachers, support staff, and families will work together to achieve them.

If your child fits one or more of the criteria above, they will have an IEP.  IEPs are being updated for semester 2 learning and will be available to parents via Compass from Thursday morning.

Parents and carers can access IEPs your child’s profile page on the ‘Insights’ tab:

As always, if you have any queries, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK

Children’s Book Week is coming up in week 5 of this term.  This event is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and promote books and reading.  This year the theme for Book Week is ‘Book an Adventure’, which ties the exploratory aspirations of the artist and our invitation to join us in celebrating 80 years of Children's Book Week.

There will lots of fun activities happening throughout the week that students will have the opportunity to participate in and, we are bringing back our whole school Book Week dress up day, which we know is very popular!  Dress up day will take place on Friday, August 22 and we encourage everyone to get involved.

More information will be communicated via future editions of the newsletter and Compass, but in the meantime, mark your calendars and start talking with your child about which character they might like to dress up as.

Keep up the great work with your participation in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge everyone and don’t forget to write a book review to share with others as well.

Every student who completes the challenge will receive a certificate at the end of the Challenge. The Challenge ends on September 5th, which is 39 days away, so keep up the reading!
