Principal's Report

Principal for a Day

We ended up with 80 applicants, so choosing our Principals for a Day was very challenging.  The successful applicants were Yolandie V, Eilidh M, Eleanor C, Mia C and Leo S. Friday was certainly a fun day for all involved.  Mrs Phillips, Mrs Sullivan and myself had two principals each working with us across the day and had the honorary principals helping us with tasks like:

·         presenting at the 5-6 assembly.

·         leading a discussion with our Bunjil award winners.

·         conducting classroom observations and providing staff and students with some honest feedback.

·         joining us for yard duty.

·         clearing a blocked toilet (luckily they just got to observe!)

·         helping to set up for the disco….and much more.

All six did an excellent job and we’d like to congratulate all that applied.  One of the features of our school is that we have so many kids that just want to embrace opportunities and give things a go.  This has been another example of that.

Eilidh -

On Friday, 1st August, we had our “Principal for the Day” event. To take part, we had to write an application to enter the competition. This meant we got to experience what it’s like to be a principal, which included speaking at assembly, having morning tea, doing yard duties, checking the school cameras, helping with recycling, tasting some of the food the students made, and finally helping out at the school disco.

It was a very big and busy day, especially with preparations for the upcoming disco. We had to make sure all the food, lollies, and drinks were taken down to the gym on time. My favourite part of the day was doing yard duty at recess and lunch. I enjoyed this because it was nice to feel like a teacher and really step into the principal role.

Overall, the day was a lot of fun, and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of applying next time.

Leo -

Hi, my name is Leo, and I was lucky enough to be Principal for a Day!

The highlight of my day was checking the school cameras — and catching my brother on them! My favourite job was speaking at assembly. In the staffroom, the snacks were so good!

It was a really cold day, especially at assembly. I could never take my jumper off or I’d freeze! But the day got better. I didn’t have to go in the bin (not that I would — yuck!). I also walked around the school handing out things for reading and helped with the fruit drop‑off. I didn’t realise we’d be checking the cameras, but apparently it was just a prank to test our skills.

Something else I didn’t know is that teachers sometimes eat really unhealthy snacks!

Overall, it was a great day. I hope I can win Principal for a Day again next year 🤞🤞🤞. I was a bit nervous at assembly (and very cold 🥶), but I really enjoyed the experience.

Thanks for reading!

Eleanor -

Hi, my name is Eleanor, and I was one of the lucky students chosen to be Student Principal for a Day.

Throughout the day, I had the opportunity to speak at assembly, do yard duty, enjoy morning tea in the staffroom, and talk with students about what they like and don’t like at school (including the new chime before speaking and the Burrow).

It was an amazing chance to see the school from a different perspective and think about things in a new way. One of the highlights was checking the security cameras and solving a “crime” — which turned out to be a prank 😏.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I learnt so much. I highly recommend that everyone applies for this opportunity in the future — it’s truly amazing!

*Next week you’ll hear from our three other ‘Principals for a Day’…stay tuned!

Regional AFL

Well done to our boys AFL team who last Friday competed at the regional AFL competition.  It was a great effort to get to that level again this year and compete against schools from far and wide.  They performed very well and made it through to the semi-finals.  The team that beat them (Woodland PS from Warrnambool) by just 3 points went on to win the grand final, so we weren’t far off the pace.

The team was led by Mr Rodgers, who was ably supported by Levi Redford (Ashcroft) as assistant coach.  Mr Rodgers and Levi were impressed by the manner in which the kids competed, all playing in a variety of positions, all having time on the sidelines and all playing with great sportsmanship.
