In Loose Play this week, our ELC students created a rocket ship, a submarine and a space ship that morphed into a ghost!

By providing a variety of open-ended materials, children can manipulate, combine, and transform during play. This type of play encourages creativity, problem solving and critical thinking while also supporting physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.

We always welcome interesting ‘loose parts’ that you may no longer require.

Nature Play

Three different classes attended Nature Play on Wednesday and some children from each class were drawn to this same puddle. How much fun can one puddle give?!?!

Kinder

What an amazing Term 2 we've had in Kindergarten!

This term we have spent time learning about positive behaviour choices using our College's Positive Behaviour Matrix. The children have been great at making good choices and helping their friends do the same. They are really starting to understand how their actions affect others.

Our excursions this term were very exciting for everyone! We went to Nature Play, Kindergym and we even had a visit to Fullers Bookshop. At Kindergym, the students had fun balancing, climbing, jumping and moving their bodies in different ways. They were brave as they tried new things, building their confidence with every activity.

Our visit to Fullers Bookshop was very special. The students learned the difference between borrowing books from the library and buying books from a shop. The best part was that Fullers kindly gave each child their own free book to take home! Thank you Fullers!

As we finish Term 2, we're so grateful for all the learning and fun we've shared. Our Kinder students and staff are exciting to close the chapter of what was our classroom and look forward to starting Semester Two in our brand new purpose built facility. We are looking forward to welcoming more growth, special memories and determination as we move into Term 3. Thank you to all our families for your support so far this year. We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday!

Prep

What a term we have had in Prep.  We have enjoyed excursions to Fullers Bookstore, the Royal Botanical Gardens, Bunnings and Dru Point Playground.  We have been busy in the classroom learning new skills and sounds to apply to our reading and writing and have been eagerly developing our number skills.

As we finish the Term we are full of excitement to move in to the Louisa Centre.  We are feeling so lucky to have the most beautiful space to learn and play in.   We had our first visit this week and now cannot wait to start Term 3 in our new classroom.

Year 1

Term 2 has been full of lots of learning and fun. We have learnt some new tricky sounds and spelling rules. We even know some catchy songs to help us spell words like because, could, would and should.

Our English writing focus this term has been Narrative writing. We have written our own chapters for The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. We had to think of our own ideas for a new land at the top of the Faraway Tree. Some of our lands we called, The Land of Love Hearts, The Land of Pasta, The Land of Ice Cream, The Land of Smiggle and The Land of Coffee.

In Religion, we have been learning about the important features of The Church. To end our unit, we went on a 'Church Crawl' to Mount Saint Canice Church, St Mary's Cathedral and St Therese's Church. We learnt so much about the beautiful spaces and what they all have in common.

In Health, Year 1 spoke a lot about taking care of our mind, body and spirit - making decisions that keep us health. We had so much fun creating 3D models of our favourite meals.

Out last highlight was making our 'Push Monsters.' As part of our Push and Pull unit, we sued a straw to push dye wash across the page to make crazy looking monsters. Then we added googly eyes and legs to our shapes.

What an amazing term of growth and friendship we have had! Happy Holidays Everyone.

Year 2

In Year 2, we have been loving deepening our faith this term. Every morning we think of prayers of intercession and enjoy starting our day with a religious song. We have been learning about the Church and all of its features. To consolidate our learning, we recently visited four churches in Hobart. Each church was different, yet had many of the same features such as a tabernacle, lectern, pews, altar and a sanctuary lamp. What a wonderful term!

Year 4

Year 4 have had a wonderful time learning together in Term 2. Here are some highlights from Year 4 students:

“It has been really fun in Maths doing surveys and using tally marks. I chose favourite foods and the most popular was ice cream. I was hoping it would be French fries.”

“My highlight for Term 2 was making the Cross Country team. I got to meet people from different schools and also go to Symmons Plains and race against 210 people.”

“The best part of Term 2 was art because it taught me new ways to blend colours with oil pastels.”

Year 5 Navy

Gold fever has taken over the students in 5 Navy as they participated in activities related to our HASS unit ‘ The Great Gold Rush’.  There were plenty of grievances when their licence to prospect was lost. There was also some wariness as they learned of bush rangers ready to ambush them and steal their gold.  However excitement and curiosity reigned as they learned about this momentous time in history.

Year 5 White

This term, 5 White were proud to celebrate Mother’s Day and recognise the incredible role mothers, grandmothers, and special carers play in the lives of our students. Our school community came together to show appreciation through a variety of heartfelt activities.

Students worked hard in the lead-up to the day, creating thoughtful handmade cards and beautiful craft gifts to take home. Many classes took the time to write poems, stories, and thank-you letters, expressing their love and gratitude.  It was a lovely opportunity for families to spend time in our learning spaces and to be appreciated by both staff and students alike

We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the women who give so much to our children each and every day. Thank you to all the wonderful mums and carers who help shape our students into kind, resilient, and curious learners.

Year 6 Navy

This term, 6 Navy have been hard at work completing two major assignments. In Science, students explored animal migration and how species adapt to changing environments. In HASS, they investigated the Stolen Generations, conducting thoughtful research on significant Aboriginal Australians and their contributions to society.

Throughout the term, there has been a joyful and positive atmosphere among the 6 Navy students, with plenty of excitement and questions about our upcoming Canberra trip. The energy in the classroom has certainly been high, even as the weather has turned colder. We also had a fantastic time celebrating SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY Shorts Day, enjoying lots of colour, fun, and important conversations about mental health and kindness.

Year 6 White

During Term 2, 6 White students explored key mathematical concepts such as fractions, decimals and measurement. In HaSS and Science, we investigated the impact of the Stolen Generations, extreme environments, and animal migration linked to climate change. Term highlights included excursions to local churches and a vibrant Round Robin Sport Day showcasing teamwork and school spirit.
