The Arts - Cinefest

Well done to Grace Eckersley (Year Ten) and Max Cruse (Year Ten), who are finalists in the Cinesnaps film competition in Busselton. This is Max's fourth year as a finalist and Grace's second. They were the winners of the Year Seven to Nine category last year. The synopsis of their film is ‘feeling overwhelmed by the currents of his life, a boy finds himself in a dangerous rip.’

The winners will be announced in September at the Cinefest Film Festival, fingers crossed for Grace and Max! Many thanks to Ms Katie Gunning for all her guidance and support.

Possum Puppet Play

Our play is taking shape as we finalise the script. We have a great group of performers and stage crew who will be working over the next four months to bring our play to life.

We have had our lead artist, Chloe Flockart, here with us for the first block of her residency, mentoring all of us as the play takes form. Chloe is a multidisciplinary puppeteer with a wealth of skills and experience to share. She has worked on many productions with theatre companies in Western Australia and internationally. Chloe was involved in the acclaimed play of Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse in London. She has worked with The Last Great Hunt, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and Barking Gecko.

Students have really benefitted from Chloe’s impressive range of skills and bold approach to everything she does. We are excited to see our set and puppets come to life.

Library News

Term Three is a super exciting time in the Library at GSG!

Children’s Book Week | 18–22 August 2025

In 2025, we celebrate 80 years of celebrating the joy of reading through Book Week and the activities that children everywhere in Australia partake in.

We will be celebrating Book Week in Week Five at GSG and the library staff are eagerly planning some fun activities for our students. This year’s theme is 'Book an Adventure'! Who does not love an adventure? The students are excited about this theme.

We will have a Whole School dress-up day on Tuesday 19 August with a Primary School parade in the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex beginning at 9.00am. All parents and caregivers are warmly welcomed to attend.

Book Fair

In conjunction with Book Week, we will also be running a Book Fair starting on Tuesday 12 August through to Thursday 21 August. This will be a Scholastic Book Fair and as a result of hosting this fair we will not be sending Scholastic book orders home this term.

Yours in reading.

Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award

Congratulations to Tahlee Grinter (Wilson) on achieving the prestigious Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award - a remarkable accomplishment that reflects her dedication, perseverance and commitment to personal growth.

I began my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award in 2022 during Year Nine, completing 13 hours in each section: powerboating for my skill, surfing for physical recreation and cleaning fishing line bins for service. My adventurous journey took place in Shark Bay/Monkey Mia, where I helped feed and monitor dolphins.

In 2023, I started the Silver Award and completed 26 hours per section, choosing fishing as my skill, continuing with surfing for physical recreation and participating in nature regeneration for service. For the adventurous journey, I spent a week in Exmouth, swam with whale sharks and learned about marine conservation.

In 2024, I began the Gold Award, completing 52 hours in each section, plus the additional Gold Residential Project. I chose aerial silks for my skill, snorkeling for physical recreation and coaching for service. My final adventurous journey was a four-day hike on the Bibbulmun Track with two friends. For the residential, I spent a week in Perth for Country Week, playing netball.

Since starting the Duke of Edinburgh Award, I’ve completed a total of 91 hours in each section - 273 hours overall.
