A message from Cheryl
Keeping with our theme of being 'Grateful' from last week, today we had a theme of 'Thankfulness' at our weekly Activity Group.
We discussed the importance of being thankful and who we could think of specifically, that we would like to thank and why.
We also discussed the benefits of being grateful/thankful which include:
- Increased happiness and optimism
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Improved sleep
- Boosts physical health by lowering blood pressure and reducing inflammation
Next week we will write thankyou letters to those special people who have made/are making a positive difference in our lives.
It will be great to acknowledge and discuss our choices of people and perhaps to re-visit on a regular basis.
Silver Sporting Achievement
Last weekend Hector became the silver medalist in South Australia in the Athletics Winter Series Championships U9 Boys. It was a wet, windy and extremely cold competition, but Hector fought hard over 3 days and 12 disciplines to come away with the silver medal. His club won the Winter Series Club Shield. Well done Hector!
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
All schools are required to collect information about the numbers of students that they provide adjustments to under the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and Disability Standards of Education (2005). This data is submitted annually in August and is used as the basis for national funding. The NCCD involves the collection of;
- the number of students receiving adjustments to enable them to participate in education on the same basis as other students
- the level of adjustment provided to students
- student’s type of disability if known
Under the model the definition of disability is broad and includes learning difficulties, health and mental health conditions.
If your child is identified for inclusion in the Collection, the required information will be included in this year’s data collection.
If you have any questions about the data collection, please contact the front office.
Book Week
We are excited to announce that our Book Week will be celebrated the week of 25th – 29th August, with the theme “Book an Adventure”.
This year, we are encouraging students to dive into stories that take them on exciting adventures - whether it‛s exploring magical lands, sailing the high seas, uncovering mysteries, or journeying through time!
As part of the celebration, we will be holding a Book Character Parade on the Friday of that week, at 9am with Book Week Activities to follow. Parent/Grandparent involvement will add to the enjoyment, if you are available. As part of the parade, we invite all students to dress up as a character from a book that represents an adventure. This could be from a favourite story, fairy tale, or a journey across time, space, or imagination! Costumes can be simple or elaborate – whatever your child is comfortable wearing. We encourage creativity and a strong connection to a book or story your child enjoys. Let‛s make Book Week an exciting journey into the world of storytelling!
On Wednesday 13th of August students will all attend a fantastic immersive book week themed incursion in the school gym, notes will be sent home shortly for this experience.
Please see or speak to the teacher or come and see Corinne in the library with any questions. Thank you for your support in making reading fun and meaningful for our student
Uraidla Primary Facebook Group
If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a FaceBook group for UPS families and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.
It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council and admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.
Chess
Did you know that each Thursday during the second lunch playtime there is a Chess Club? Chess is a great game and brings many benefits to children, including
* critical thinking
* concentration
* challenge
* enjoyment
* decision making skills
New players are welcome each week, meeting in Stephen’s class♟️
Enrolment in Reception
If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled to start school. Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.
Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.
If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)
Enrolments for mid entry 2025 should already be finalised. With enrolments for start of 2026 due by the end of term 2. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!
