Prefects

Recently, the newly elected prefect body for 2025/26 went on their prefect camp over the course of three wet days in Collaroy. Here, the new prefects learned about the challenges that come in leading the school with such a large group, and formulated our goals for the next twelve months.

The main objectives of prefect camp were to develop an initiative for us and the school, create a tight bond amongst the prefect body, and to elect our prefect executives. With credit to Mr Leggo, Mr Dewane, and Mr Ko, we were able to come together as one big unit thanks to the many activities these teachers had planned for us. These activities included a lot of teamwork and creative thinking activities, such as the ‘drawing twins’ activity, where one person had to draw an image relying solely on their partner’s verbal instructions.

The prefect body also had the pleasure of having sessions led by our Principal Ms Schadel and our Deputy Principal Mr Kennedy, who both made the effort to drive down to Collaroy. Ms Schadel’s session gave us insight on the ins and outs of the school and answered any questions that we had. Mr Kennedy taught us the importance of the nitty gritty areas of being a leader, overviewing the various daily duties involved in the role of a prefect.

Amongst these teacher-led activities were also a small portion of camp activities, which followed the same principles of including a lot of teamwork and creative thinking. One camp activity that developed these skills the most was the ‘vertical challenge’, a vertical obstacle course where students in groups of three all had to reach the top.

This camp proved to be crucial for the prefect body’s planning for the year ahead. Many major decisions were made over the course of the three days, starting with the division and development of major aspects of our school culture, and ending with the election of our three executives, Joshua C, Ben C, and Riley P as our Vice Captain, Head Prefect, and School Captain respectively. Despite the unpleasant weather, this camp proved to be a significant moment in setting up our tenure as the prefect body of Epping Boys, and we cannot wait for the students and greater community to see what we have in store.

Get keen and get around it!
