Year 12 Students Commended for Trial Exam Efforts and Society & Culture PIP Submission

Congratulations to all Year 12 students for their dedication and perseverance throughout the recent Trial Examination period. Your hard work and commitment are commendable — keep up the momentum as you approach the final stage of your HSC journey.

A special acknowledgment goes to the Year 12 Society and Culture class, who submitted their Personal Interest Projects (PIPs) in Week 3 of this term. The PIP is a major independent research task that requires students to investigate a self-determined question through the collection and analysis of both primary and secondary data.

The submission marks the culmination of three terms of consistent effort, critical thinking, and academic discipline. Under the expert guidance of Ms Forrest, the students produced high-quality projects that reflect deep engagement with their chosen topics. These PIPs have now been submitted for external marking, and we are incredibly proud of what the boys have achieved.

Well done to all!

History Students Enrich Their Learning at HTA Study Days

Recently, students from Modern History, Ancient History, and History Extension attended the HTA (History Teachers' Association) Study Days. These valuable events are designed to enhance students' understanding of course content and reinforce the critical writing skills required for success in their respective HSC courses. Throughout the day, students engaged with expert-led sessions tailored to the topics they are studying, providing not only an excellent opportunity for content revision but also deeper insights into historical thinking and analysis.  The boys found the sessions both informative and engaging, gaining new perspectives and practical strategies to support their learning. It was a rewarding experience that will no doubt support their preparation in the lead-up to final assessments.

Year 12 Modern History Students Visit Sydney Jewish Museum

As part of their HSC study of the Power and Authority in the Modern World topic, Year 12 Modern History students recently visited the Sydney Jewish Museum. This enriching excursion provided students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the rise of authoritarian regimes in the 20th century, particularly Nazi Germany.

During the visit, students attended expert-led lectures that explored key aspects of the topic, aligning closely with their classroom learning. They also toured the museum’s powerful exhibitions, which offered firsthand insights into the impact of totalitarian rule and the lived experiences of those affected.

The excursion was a valuable experience that brought historical content to life, enhanced critical thinking, and supported students in making meaningful connections between historical sources and the HSC curriculum.

Library Book Week

Book Week at Epping Boys High School started off with a burst of literature – inspired creativity, with seven students from our school taking part in a bookmark design competition during Tuesday lunchtime. Their imaginative designs showcased a love of reading and the spirit of book week, with influences from Harry Potter, The Bible to Anime to name but a few.  Congratulations to all participants for their enthusiasm and artistic flair—what a fantastic way to celebrate books and storytelling!

Results of our creative competition will be announced in Week 6.

Additionally, Students are also taking part in our book review competition, promoting some of our most recent Library books with exciting blurbs about what makes their chosen novel so exciting.

Results of the book review competition will also be announced in Week 6.

Languages

It has been an incredibly busy and rewarding term for the Languages faculty, with students across all years engaging in rich learning experiences and cultural activities.

Year 8 students have been learning expressions used at a Japanese restaurant to order drinks and foods. Hopefully they will be able to put this to use in their future travels to Japan.

Year 9 Elective students have been developing their skills in describing daily routines in greater depth, building fluency and confidence in extended speaking and writing. To conclude the topic, they interviewed students from our sister school and used the information to create picture books, showcasing both their knowledge and creativity.

Year 10 Elective students have explored the theme of travelling in Japan, gaining practical knowledge for future visits. To demonstrate their learning, they produced postcards written in Japanese, highlighting their understanding and knowledge of famous tourist attractions across Japan.

Year 11 Elective students are working diligently as they prepare for their Preliminary Examinations. We recognise the effort and commitment they have shown throughout the year, and we look forward with confidence to seeing their successes as they consolidate their studies. The dedication and resilience of this group is commendable, and we are proud of the progress they have made.

Meanwhile, our Year 12 Elective Japanese students have completed both their HSC Speaking Examination and their Trial HSC Examinations. Their dedication and effort throughout this demanding period is to be commended, and we are very proud of their achievements. We encourage them to continue striving with the same commitment as they approach their final HSC examinations, confident that their hard work will lead to success. We wish them the very best of luck for the weeks ahead.

Epping Boys High School welcome students from Suginami Junior High Schools

From August 18, Epping Boys High School was delighted to host students from a range of junior high schools from Suginami, Tokyo for a one-week visit. Since 2019, this connection has given students from both schools the chance to learn from one another and build lasting friendships.

During their stay, the Suginami students joined English lessons and were buddied with our Year 9 Elective Japanese students, creating a unique opportunity for language practice and cultural exchange. They also participated in engaging school activities and enjoyed experiencing everyday Australian school life alongside their new friends.

We look forward to welcoming more students from Suginami again in the future!
