Celebrations of learning at Lucas Primary School
Spelling
In Spelling this term, students will continue to engage in Sounds Write lessons where they will be explicitly taught the spelling of the vowel digraphs and how to spell polysyllabic words. Students will learn spelling rules such as when to use c, k, ck and double letters.
Reading
In Reading this term students will continue to explore a range of strategies that successful readers use. This includes strategies such as summarising, inferring, synthesising and analysing. They will also have a continual focus throughout the term on improving their fluency through lots of practise reading aloud.
Writing
This term in Writing, students will have a focus on sentence structure and compound sentences. We will complete narratives, expositions and information reports linked to our Integrated Studies topic of ‘Then and Now’. They will work through the writing process which will include researching, planning, drafting, editing, enhancing and publishing their writing.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, students will have a focus on data collection and graphing. They will also continue to improve their place value skills by reading, writing, modelling and ordering numbers. We will keep practising our skip counting patterns and our addition and subtraction strategies such as tens facts, doubles, near doubles and counting on. Fractions, money and location will also be explored this term!
Integrated Studies
In Integrated Studies this term, students will explore the topic of History through ‘Then and Now’. They will connect and compare the differences between childhood now and in the 1850s. Students will think critically about the many things that have changed and improved throughout time.
