Year Five

Dear Year Five Families,
It's hard to believe we're already in Week Four! This term has been racing by, and Year Five has been full of energy, excitement, and plenty of new experiences!
An Adventure at Camp Kangaroobie
In Week 3, our Year Five students set off for three unforgettable days at Camp Kangaroobie in Princetown. The weather may have been brisk and blustery, but nothing could dampen our enthusiasm. The year level was split into two groups, each enjoying a mix of exciting activities in the camp's stunning natural setting.
Survivor Challenge
In small tribes, students worked together to complete team-based challenges that relied on cooperation, trust, and problem-solving. Clear communication and shared strategies made all the difference!
Mud, Water, and Smiles
The obstacle course was a standout favourite. It offered plenty of physical challenge, splashes of water, and more than a little mud - all adding to the laughter and fun.
Life or Death
Students took on the roles of herbivores, carnivores, or diseases in a fast-paced game of strategy and quick thinking. Teachers and parent volunteers joined in as water-pistol-wielding hunters, creating some exciting (and slightly soggy) encounters in the bush.
On the River
All groups had the opportunity to canoe on the Gellibrand River. Despite the windy conditions, our students demonstrated strong persistence and determination. Everyone gave their best effort, working together to steer, paddle in sync, and keep their balance. Their teamwork and resilience were commendable, and every group completed the challenge with pride. A memorable moment came when Mr O and a student took an unexpected dip after their canoe capsized - but don't worry, they were both safe, smiling, and quick to laugh about it afterwards!
Farm Life
Kangaroobie's working farm gave students a fascinating insight into rural life. They enjoyed a trailer ride to feed the cattle and took part in a memorable activity where they stood in a semi-circle to safely experience the flow of electricity through an electric fence. This hands-on experience gave students a real sense of how electric fences work and why they are important in managing farm animals safely.
The 12 Apostles
A stop at the iconic 12 Apostles was a breathtaking way to end the camp experience. Although fewer than twelve remain, the limestone formations still amazed our students.
Back at School
Students who stayed on-site took part in camp-themed projects, from designing uniforms and budgeting for a camp trip to researching the 12 Apostles and enjoying the film The Parent Trap. They also showcased creativity by designing their own obstacle courses!
Whether at camp or at school, every student took on the week with enthusiasm and positivity. The Year Five team is so proud of their effort, teamwork, and willingness to be real risk-takers.
General Reminders
Homework should be completed and returned each fortnight on Google Classroom.
Students are expected to read every night and record this in their reading logs.
