As Term 2 draws to a close, we want to celebrate all the amazing achievements of our Year 7 students as they complete their very first semester of high school! Over the past few months, Year 7s have settled in beautifully — making new friends, rising to the challenge of new routines, and showing real growth both in and out of the classroom.
We’ve seen fantastic participation in interschool sports and a strong team spirit during cross country. Everyone gave their best, and we’re proud of the effort and encouragement students showed each other. Congratulations to our Year 7 students who also represented the school at district level and helped with numbers in the Year 8 competitions.
In the classroom, students have made noticeable progress, especially in their reading skills — with many showing great improvement in comprehension, fluency, and confidence. Thank you to our amazing Tutor team who has been working individually with each student to work through their DIBELS testing.
To finish the term on a high, we have two exciting days coming up next week that students are buzzing about. Wednesday we are heading to Gravity Zone and then have Speak and Share coming in to talk all things health and wellbeing. Thursday we will be spending time at the Big Goose and then having activities at school. We will wrap up the week with a Year Level assembly on the Friday to celebrate the success of the term.
We’re so proud of our Year 7s and can’t wait to see what’s ahead in Term 3! Have a safe and happy break!

It has been a very BUSY Term 2 for our Year 8 Students!
Our Year 8s have successfully explored numerous careers throughout our ICARE subject, allowing them to become construction workers to build the highest spaghetti towers, agriculturists to plant and grow their own grass heads, to even becoming early childhood educators where they demonstrated high levels of responsibility caring for an egg for a full week.
During this unit, the Year 8 team partnered with our careers department to take 22 eager female students to the Trade and Tech Fit Expo at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Trade & Tech Fit is Victoria’s largest hands-on career expo that connects female and gender diverse people of all ages with the growing trade and technology industries.
During interschool sports, many of our students represented the college with a competitive drive and enthusiasm to show off their hard work and training. Boys Football placed 3rd, Girls Badminton placed 2nd, Girls Netball (A) Group placed 6th and (B) Group placed 2nd, and a HUGE Congratulations to our Boys Badminton team who came won 1st place.
Student of the Week has continued throughout term 2, where each week a year 8 student was nominated by their teachers for displaying academic success, respect to all, and enthused engagement in their classwork. In addition, this student receives a ‘gold star’ for their Home Group, and any Home Group that receives 5 Gold Stars wins a class lunch and party! A big congratulations this term to Romeo Andric, Mary Leorag, Riley Buttery, Will Cupidon, Jesse Corbett, Jett Thompson, Serena Branch, Summer Farrell and Balin Bellinger.
We finished the semester with a BANG! With a 2-day celebration that included excursions to Gravity Zone and The Big Goose, with plenty of activities occurring onsite to recognize the dedication of our Year 8 students that completed all of their Semester One class work. As well, we held our Term 2 Best and CARE’st Assembly to award numerous students who have continuously demonstrated our Western Port CARE Values and have gone above and beyond with their studies.
We look forward to working with this amazing and dedicated cohort in Term 3 and seeing what they can achieve next.

Our Year 9 students have had a dynamic and engaging term, full of learning, exploration and development both inside and outside the classroom.
One of the standout experiences this term was the excursion to Deakin University, where students participated in workshops focused on employability skills, with a strong emphasis on communication. Through interactive activities and team-based challenges, students had the opportunity to explore how communication plays a vital role in future work environments. It was an inspiring day that helped bridge the gap between the classroom and real-world career pathways.
In addition to our academic learning, Year 9s also got active in the Winter Sports Program. Whether participating in netball, badminton, or AFL students demonstrated great sportsmanship, teamwork, and persistence in the chilly conditions! It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved and supporting one another on and off the field.
In the classroom, students continued to build core learning skills, including critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, across all subject areas. Highlights include practical cooking assessments in Food Technology, history investigations, and continued development in numeracy and literacy.
We are incredibly proud of how the Year 9s have carried themselves this term with enthusiasm, growing maturity and a willingness to engage in new challenges.
We encourage all students to enjoy a well-earned break, reflect on their progress so far, and return in Term 3 ready for the next stage of their learning journey.
Wishing all Junior School students and families a safe and restful holiday break!
