Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Update

Assistant Principal Curriculum and Reporting: Kara Dunstan
Learning Specialist Curriculum (Years 7 - 10): Alison Dowler
Learning Specialist Numeracy: Matt Wright
As we close out a productive and engaging Semester 1 at Western Port Secondary College, we want to thank our staff, students, and families for their continued commitment to teaching and learning. Below are a few key updates from the Curriculum and Assessment team.
PAT Testing
This term, students across the school have completed Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) in Reading and Mathematics. These assessments provide valuable insights into student growth and help inform targeted teaching strategies in Semester 2. Teachers will use this data to personalise learning, identify student needs, and measure progress against national benchmarks.
NAPLAN Results – Available Early Term 3
Our Year 7 and Year 9 students participated in NAPLAN testing earlier this year. NAPLAN results will be distributed to families in early Term 3. These results will complement our ongoing assessment data, contributing to a more complete picture of each student’s learning.
Semester Reports
Semester 1 reports are now available to parents and carers via Compass. These reports highlight academic progress, effort, and work habits across each subject area. Families are encouraged to review the feedback with their child and celebrate achievements, while also setting clear goals for improvement in Semester 2.
Term 3 Parent-Teacher Conferences – Reminder
A reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place at the end of Term 3. These conferences are an essential opportunity to discuss your child’s academic journey, identify strategies for continued improvement, and build a stronger home-school partnership. Bookings will open via Compass towards the end of the term.
Victorian Curriculum 2.0 – Planning for 2026
We are actively preparing for the implementation of Victorian Curriculum 2.0, scheduled for full rollout in 2026. Staff have begun engaging in professional learning around curriculum redesign, assessment alignment, and capability integration. This forward planning ensures Western Port is ready to deliver a guaranteed and viable curriculum.
