It’s been a powerful and inspiring term with major strides in both our Classroom Mastery rollout and student empowerment initiatives.

Reconciliation Week

During Reconciliation Week, our community came together to reflect, learn and celebrate the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Highlights included:

✅ Welcome to Country & Smoking Ceremony – Led by Josh West, this powerful opening grounded the event in cultural respect and recognition.

✅ Mob teaching; Jett Thompson taught Year 7 and 8 LEAP classes about his possum pelts and yidaki

✅ Mob Cook Up – Sharing of kangaroo stir fry and delicious warm bush bread

✅ Workshops & Yarning Circles – canvas painting, mural painting and movie screening

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved across the week. We are looking forward to NAIDOC Week celebrations in Term 3, Week 1.

CARE Captains

This term, our incredible CARE Captains have been hard at work bringing their Legacy Projects to life, leaving a lasting impact across the Western Port Secondary College community. From the launch of the Western Port Radio Show to the planning of unforgettable Senior School Formals, their creativity and leadership have shone through.

Highlights include the energetic Lap-a-thon and fundraiser, the fun-filled Year Level Trivia competitions and the inspiring Drama Club Showcase - with even more exciting initiatives still to come!

Their dedication to building connection, school spirit, and student voice is truly making a difference. We’re proud of their efforts and can’t wait to see what they achieve next.

Classroom Mastery Continued...

In partnership with Knowledge Society, Western Port Secondary College has successfully embedded Classroom Mastery strategies to strengthen classroom management and boost student engagement. Developed by Dr. Tim McDonald, the Classroom Mastery program equips educators with practical tools to foster positive, focused, and productive learning spaces.

This term’s implementation has centered around:

  • Structured Learning Environments; Clear routines and expectations have helped reduce disruptions and maximise valuable learning time.

  • Teacher Support and Development;  Through professional learning, coaching and access to targeted resources, staff have built confidence and consistency in their practice. This has included over 50 classroom observations across the term!

  • Coach Development; This term we have focused on a coach the coach model. CM Coaches are continuing to build their skills in giving feedback and this model will continue into Term 3

We’re proud of the progress made and excited to continue our Classroom Mastery journey in Term 3.

Kind Regards,

Brooke Roy
