Performing Arts, School Sport and Year 8 Writing piece by Summer Farrell

Performing Arts

It’s been a vibrant and music filled term in Performing Arts! Students have been deeply engaged in 1:1 instrumental lessons, with our bands, ensembles and vocal groups sounding better than ever. The Winter Concert was a standout event, drawing a packed house and showcasing the incredible talent across all year levels. We also saw fierce (and fun!) competition in our annual Karaoke Contest, culminating in a thrilling Grand Final congratulations to Olivia Edwards for taking out the top spot!

As mentioned in our Principal Update - come along to our College Performance, The Snow! Details below...

Inter School Sport

Wow! What a term of sport we have had and check out our new Inter School Sport uniforms! Beautiful design by Bayley Mifsud - Merindah Gunya to really tell the sporting story of Western Port SC and our community.

We have had various events take place this term including our district cross country and athletics finals, 3 separate days of Senior Sport, Year 9/10 sport, Year 8 and 7 Sport. With these results, we have equaled the same amount of Flags Won last year in total with an entire day and term of sport to go.

Cross Country

The annual cross country event was run down at the Hastings Foreshore in May, where we had 35 runners from years 7-10. It was a big day with 9 of our students making it to the Regional Finals held at Ballam park. Special Shout out to Tui D.B ( year 10) who ran in the wild weather at Regionals and placed 11th out of 60 and has made it to STATE for a 2nd time.

Athletics

Another Big Day as usual - with WPSC having 49 students represent the college at Ballam Park. Congratulations to all our students who have made it to the Regional Finals later this year.

Inter School Sport

Across term 2 the sport didn’t stop.  WPSC  was well represented across all sporting days with students jumping at the opportunity to play their favourite sport or try one they’d never done in the southern peninsula district carnivals. Across the term we had some amazing results with WPSC being extremely competitive.  Congrats to the following teams who placed in the top 3 for their sport on the day of competition:

Senior Boys Basketball - 🥈

Senior Girls Hockey - 🥇

Senior Boys badminton -🥈

Senior Boys Table Tennis - 🥉

Intermediate Girls Badminton 🥉

Intermediate Boys AFL - 🥈

Year 8 Boys Badminton 🥇

Year 8 Girls Badminton 🥈

Thank you to all staff who have helped support our students and enabled them to go out and have fun and enjoy sport!

A message from Mr Henaghen our Sports Coordinator...

“Thank you to all students who have put their hand up to represent the college. I could not be prouder of you all, seeing the enthusiasm, dedication is what it’s all about. Let’s keep that going into term 3 and make WPSC even more competitive “

Year 8 Student Narrative

Killers Heart

By Summer Farrell

Crimson red blood seeps down her pearlescent gown. Swaying back and forth, the young princess falls to the soft green grass. Arrow struck through her heart, the princess’s body grows colder and colder by the second.

Wide-eyed and open-mouthed, the crowd of guests quickly turns into a chaotic cacophony of shrieks and shouts.

Hastily, Aaliyah swings her bow around her shoulder. Before she runs, Aaliyah takes one last glance at her completed and successful pursuit. Disappearing into the willow forest’s shadows, she is gone as quick as she’d appeared…

Surrounding the kingdom, deep in the forest is a place unaffected by the death. Deep in the shadows Aaliyah escaped into lies the reason a princess died. Within the shadows dwells the court of Iron Bloom.

Iron Bloom consists of those who loathe the royals enough to want to kill them. Perched upon their thrones, the royal family only cares about their power and money. Not the poor families living on the streets of Aurilienne; a bustling city split in two, the poor who have nothing and the rich who need everything.

Loathe is not a strong enough word to portray the resentment towards the royals.

Watching someone you love die is how you break. Hence why Aaliyah was hired to kill the future King, Caleb’s, princess. He would never become a king without a queen, especially if he had to live with the thought of losing her again…

Walking over soft grass, Aaliyah heads towards the court. Chirping birds sing a pleasant afternoon song. Trailing behind her in the wind, many locks of hair as bright as the moon flow elegantly. Dripping down her face like a waterfall, sweat soaks her as she begins to jog again, unsure if the castle sent guards after her........
