Book of the Month - NOVEMBER

MARKET DAY

by Carrie Gallasch

illustrated by Hannah Sommerville

CBCA 2023 SHORTLISTED TITLE

It's market day and  I have a gold coin to spend! What do I buy? I am tempted by the mountains of fruit, the fun rides and the colourful jars of lollies. One little girl has this coin too and is wise where to spend it. But it isn’t until a stranger's kindness that she knows exactly what to do with her coin.

You will read through a list of interesting foods and the illustrations look like a market I have been to. You too may connect to what you read and see in MARKET DAY? The language is simple as the girl narrates, yet also, at times, quite beautiful, as the pictures match the mood and scene of the day out. It is punctuated by metaphor, analogy, alliteration and an interesting range of verbs.

Next time you are in the BPS Library, choose this new book for your teacher to read!

READING QUOTE OF THE MONTH . . .   NOVEMBER!

"I love books more than money!"

Here are some reasons why! . . .

"Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person…"

"Books show me worlds and times I could never understand, but I have lived in those times and places because of them. I have to be forever grateful for that gift."

"Having a vivid imagination, it's no wonder I fell in love with books and reading at a young age."
