ART NEWS

What fun we are having in the Art room at the moment, as we continue to develop our creativity and drawing skills.

Many of our PLCs have been exploring the eye-catching style of Australian artist Ken Done. We have us a range of mediums including chalk and oil pastels to create our own adaptations of some of his iconic artworks.

Students in Grade Prep and Grade 2 have been exploring fish, coral, seaweed and some of the other creatures you might meet under the sea! Using their free hand drawing skills, and oil pastels, student have been working really hard on creating a vibrant underwater scene. To extend their knowledge and experience of mixed mediums, students will add a layer of water coloured paint over the top of their artwork, creating a realistic underwater scene.

Our Grade 1 students have been exploring the topic of swimming and creating a combination of painted collage artwork.

Our Grade 3 and 4 students have also been looking at Ken Done’s iconic style of artwork, however they have been using chalk to create a still flower scene. They have overcome the challenges of creating artwork using chalk, and taken many deep breaths to ensure that their masterpieces haven’t been smudged! Hopefully some of these masterpieces have made their way home safely and now adorn the fridge!

Our Grade 5 and Grade 6 students are continuing the long held and much treasured graduation portrait sketches. It has been wonderful to see the growth in both confidence and sketching skills of our senior students.

Just like our special World Teachers’ Day badges say…”I work in a great school”…

Take care everyone!
