DASH News

At DASH the children have been learning how to make a simple Styrofoam print. They drew a design onto a Styrofoam sheet with a pen, applying a little pressure to make an indentation in the Styrofoam. The Styrofoam was then inked up and the image transferred to a piece of paper by applying pressure to the back of the Styrofoam sheet with a roller. Children noticed that this produced a mirror image of their design and that the ink did not go into the areas that they had pushed the pen down into. Children designed their own pair of groovy glasses. Adding on a range of craft accessories and coloured mosaic tiles, paper, and markers. Coloured cellophane lenses were added by some of the children to provide them with a different view of the world. Children made a batch of chocolate crackles. Following the recipe they measured, melted, mixed, and spooned the mixture into patty pans ready to be refrigerated and enjoyed. Children also played games of UNO and worked cooperatively together to complete jigsaws.

For Halloween the children gave an eerie background wash to a black silhouette night figure. Children added colours to a piece of aluminium foil. The foil was then brushed with a little water, making the colours liquid, and pressed onto the night figure design, to create an eerie wash effect. We made spooky cupcakes which included the children mixing, stirring, dividing, and cooking the cupcakes, they then added a colourful skull face. Along with the celebration of Halloween the children also made Mexican Day of the Dead sugar skull biscuits. Children decorated the biscuits to look like a Sugar Skull with colourful sprinkles and M&M’s
