School News

Prep

Dear Prep Families,

It has been another busy two weeks in Prep!

Our butterflies emerged and were set free in our school gardens. It was lovely to see them flying off to their new homes.

In Science, students conducted an experiment with their very own wind-o-meter, testing different wind conditions around the school.

Students have been having loads of fun learning about capacity including a STEM challenge of building a container that holds the most!

Our Fluency pyramids have been a big hit in our Reading session with our students reading like song birds. Students have also been learning about how we can use punctuation to add expression to our reading.

In Writing, our students have been exploring poetry by looking at 'rime' words and acrostic poems.

And of course we are in full swing of rehearsals for our Christmas Carols on the 28th November.

We hope you have a great week!

Grade 3 & 4

Wow! The weeks are flying in term 4 and in Grade 3/4 it continues to be a busy time. Last week we finished our last Lilydale High sports session. We would like to thank the Lilydale High staff and Year 9 students. Our students were introduced to a variety of new games and really enjoyed working with the older students.

We have been busily completing learning tasks and are very proud of the achievements of our students, demonstrating their learning and producing personal best work.

Our students have made an enthusiastic start to the Posisocks program. We are excited to learn about Connections throughout the next 2 days. Students are encouraged to wear their socks on Fridays and we have seen some fun and funny socks!

We look forward to the next few weeks of term where students will be preparing our Christmas Extravaganza.

Have a great week ahead,

Grade 5 & 6

Dear Level 5/6 Families,

What a fantastic few weeks of learning we have done.  A huge thanks to Mr V for organising the Red Earth Day at Mooroolbark College and for Miss Pepprell and Mrs Smith for attending with the group. It was fantastic to see the kids in a different environment, they represented us with distinction.

We have continued to complete our letter writing to significant adults or Mr Bradley in readiness for Leadership Positions in 2024.

In Maths we are looking at volume and capacity and how these relate to our lives.  We have also looked at marketing in Inquiry that links in beautifully to our Burger creation.

It’s been an exciting week in Reading as we focus on comprehension and developing our understanding of texts.  We have begun our end of year testing with pleasing results across the level.

In Science we have been conducting experiments to convert solids, liquids and gases by applying heat and then reversing these changes by cooling. We had fun exploring with melted chocolate, frozen milk and ice cubes.

It was lovely to have the long weekend for Cup Day.  It was lovely to see some students at school enjoying a varied program for the day.

Next Tuesday, we will be hosting the speeches for Leadership in 2024, we wish all the students the very best in their endeavours.

Keep an eye on compass, there are lots of things happening in the coming weeks, a very exciting and busy end of Term.
