Suitcase Series Theatre Festival
In the first week of November, the Year 9/10 On the Stage Theatre elective had the opportunity to participate in ‘The Suitcase Series’ education program at the Malthouse Theatre in Southbank. This program is open to all Victorian Schools, and it was Marian College's first time being a part of the event. Each school was provided with the same script, and our students created their own response to the stimulus. They performed publicly at a Theatre Day, showcasing their work to other schools.
The play, ‘Atlantis’ written by Chanella Macri, explores climate change through the eyes of three young people who embark on a perilous journey to the bottom of the ocean. Our students imaginatively developed their own play, incorporating traditional Samoan dance, song, chorus work, stylized movement, and thought-provoking scenes that imagined our future. The script specifically focused on the Pacific Islands and how climate change is affecting these countries.
During the performance, our talented students delivered their dialogue with confidence and credibility, creating memorable on-stage moments. The highlight of the show was a dramatic scene where each member of the class celebrated their own identity, cultural heritage, and language. The entire cast showed determination, resilience, and perseverance, and their creativity and talent ensured that Marian College presented a unique and innovative performance.
Congratulations to the entire class for their outstanding work! It was wonderful to see them step up and shine on the day of the performance.
