Our STEP-UP program commences on Tuesday of next week, after a student free day on 20 November to allow for staff preparation. Over the final three weeks of the school year, we expect all students to be in attendance as they move into the next year level and begin their course of studies for 2024. I thank all staff for the provision of a high-quality teaching programs as we look forward to a great finish to the school year.
I draw your attention to a Pastoral Letter from Archbishop Peter, expressing his shock and deep distress at the explicit antisemitism occurring in parts of our communities. He provides words of encouragement to listen and speak with one another in pursuit of reconciliation and peace.
Our 2024 Year 7 Information Evening held on Thursday night was a great success.
Over two hundred new and old families of St John’s attended to begin the process of transition into secondary school.
Those present received a warm welcome from our 2024 students captains and a video showcasing the 2023 Year 7 student reflections on their first year. Our Senior Leaders addressed the audience, emphasising pastoral care, an insight into well-being during adolescence and our commitment to academic excellence. The evening also featured staff-manned booths, providing an opportunity for personalised discussions on the transition to high school. I thank all staff who attended to share their experience and insights with our new families and those staff who played a role in organising and planning this night, particularly Deputy Principal of Learning & teaching, Ms Bielinski and our College Registrar, Ms Phillips.
After 42 years, staff member, Mrs Ollie Armstrong has announced her retirement from St John’s Regional College. Over her time at St John’s Mrs Armstrong has taught many thousands of students in Maths and Religious Education from Year 7 to Year 12 and also was appointed the head of the Mathematics Department for several years.
As a home room teacher, she took a keen interest in the progress and development of her students and to this day still receives communication from the many students she has guided into a wide range of successful careers. She will be remembered for her generous service to this college in the tradition of St John Baptiste de La Salle and the Venerable Nano Nagle. We wish her well as she enjoys retirement with her husband Robert, her children and grandchildren.
A reminder that the upcoming Annual Awards Evening on 29 November is a highlight of the school year and an opportunity to celebrate the achievement of our students across a range of academic, cultural and sporting pursuits. We also look forward to showcasing some of the amazing work from our Arts and technology students which has been part of the Southern Independent Schools Exhibition in Term 4 and will culminate in the presentation of the Br Amedy Molloy prize for Art on the Awards Evening.
The St John’s Regional College Art & Technology Showcase will begin at 5.30 pm followed by the Awards evening at 7 pm in the Br Leo Scollen Stadium.

We are thrilled to announce the remarkable achievement of our St John's (SIS) junior girls and junior boys basketball teams, who emerged victorious with an undefeated record! The teams showcased exceptional skill, passion, and sportsmanship, bringing great pride to our school.
The success of our teams is a testament to their dedication and hard work, evident in their consistent efforts during weekly training sessions. Their commitment to refining their skills truly paid off on the court as did the opportunity for the junior girls to train regularly with the intermediate girls.
Special acknowledgment goes to coaches of the girls' team, Ms Taryn Wilder and Mr Paul O'Loughlin and the intermediate girls who trained alongside the junior team. The junior boys' team was coached by Mr Paul Colvin and Year 10 students Triscajetan (Marcus) Versoza, Prabjot Singh and Odiongo Latar.
I congratulate the outstanding members of our SIS junior basketball teams:
