STEM News

Hello fellow scientists,

In Prep the students have been using their senses to observe the height of 3 different balls when they were dropped from the same height. They also had a go at planning their own obstacle course using three different types of motion that they have learnt this term.

In Grade 1 the students have been looking at comparing their observation results of soil with another group and at how the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People used the Earth’s resources. They also created a model of a garden using Earth’s resources they found at school.

In Grade 2 the students went to an incursion about paper recycling. During the incursion they got to have a go at making their own paper pulp to create their own piece of recycled paper. They also looked at how everyday objects such as glass jars and paper could be reused in order to reduce the amount of waste that is produced.

In Grade 3 the students have been looking at how virtual museums may benefit people and the communities. They also looked at the positives and negatives of visiting a virtual museum.

In Grade 4 the students have been looking at the contact and non-contact forces such as friction and gravity respectively. They have started to make a mini booklet which contains a definition and diagram of all the forces they have learnt this term. They have also explored how some objects are magnetic and some are not.

In Grade 5 the students have started their design project. They have planned their “choose their own space adventure story” and the layout of their slides. The students have learnt how to link on keynote and started to create their final product.

In Grade 6 the students have created, tested and evaluated an earthquake-proof building.
