Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families, we hope you are all well as we reach the halfway point of term four.

Prep students have finished their assessment for their first year of Performing Arts. Well done Preps! We have loved watching them demonstrate their learning in Dance, Music and Drama. Our Preps learn so much in their first semester in the Performing Arts room, and it’s wonderful to be able to see their growth and achievements.

Grade 1 and 2 students have been exploring how to perform in small groups by combining musical elements together. They have enjoyed playing beats and rhythms on drums, claves, and wood blocks, and have begun to explore pitch by playing glockenspiels and boomwhackers. The first melody that students had a go at playing with their classmates was from the song ‘Baby Shark’.

Grade 3 and 4 students recently completed their listening and responding assessments. This is an essential and engaging part of Performing Arts learning which gives students the opportunity to listen to, think about and share their ideas on a range of musical pieces from many different styles and cultures. Students are encouraged to think about the composition choices that the musicians have made, as well as the messages and emotions portrayed in music they listen to.

Grade 5 and 6 students have been introduced to the concept of musical improvisation. Successful improvisation requires students to understand the elements of beat, rhythm and melody, as well as how to play within a scale, and how to play as an ensemble. Student were encouraged to listen to each other and make creative choices while improvising in the C pentatonic scale on keyboards, xylophone and untuned percussion.

Stay cool!
