Prep

Last week the prep students learnt about sculptures. They used paper strips to create a sculpture, ensuring that their work was not flat, but had 3D components. The students had lots of fun and used their imagination and folding skills to inspire their creations. This week we read the picture story book “The Chameleons True Colours”. After discussing the story, the students completed a guided drawing of a chameleon. They used paint slicks to colour it, showing the colours and patterns the chameleon borrowed from the animals and plants in the story.

Grade 1&2

In week 5, the grade 1&2 students focused on creating a piece inspired by the artwork “The Tree of Life” by Gustav Klimt. They chose a white or black background, drew a tree in paint slick and then added symbols, patterns and details using metallic pastels. We can see that they were inspired by the artwork through their spiral-branched creations. This week, the grade 1&2s completed a foldable guided drawing of a Nintendo switch. Each student drew a scene from a video game on their console to add a personal touch.

Grade 3&4

Last week the grade 3&4s created mini artworks with an environmental message. They completed these artworks in one session using pastel as a medium. Students then discussed and explained the message of their artwork with their peers. This week, students created self-portraits inspired by the style of Tim Burton characters. They thought about their own features and created their self-portrait in a similar style to the character reference images. They used chalk pastel and experimented with blending techniques in this artwork.

Grade 5&6

Over the last two weeks the grade 5&6 students have been working on their art projects. Some classes are close to finishing! The students researched, planned and began creating an artwork with an environmental message. They have been using a range of materials, mediums and methods to create these pieces, making their own artistic choices and problem solving along the way. Can you guess the messages in some of these (almost completed) artworks?
