Year 8 Camp - Creswick
Year 8 Camp to Log Cabin Camp in Creswick ran from Monday 4th – Wednesday 6th May. After a cold and rainy first day, the weather cleared up for a fantastic three-day adventure.
Students were challenged to push themselves out of their comfort zone, whether it be reaching new heights with the leap of faith and giant swing, or working together to solve puzzles on challenge courses.
I would personally like to thank the Year 8 House Leaders who spent countless hours organising the camp – Mr Barry, Mr Kwong, Ms Gementzki, and Mr Hurley; and also a huge shout out to the teachers who volunteered their time to help run the camp: Ms Ekins, Ms Lannhi Nguyen, Ms Christella Nguyen, Mr McLaughlan, Mr Van Ginneken, Ms Exton, Ms Sukunda, Ms Sleit, Mr Vlahos, and Ms Mudaliar.
Mr. Tim Columbus
Student Feedback:
“It was super fun everywhere and we had a lot of fun in the cabins.” – Cameron McGregor
“Year 8 camp at Creswick was really fun! The activities were very enjoyable and high energized. Food was amazing and the billy and tea damper was delicious!” – Ayla Tavsancioglu
“Year 8 camp was a new experience that is highly recommended, each activity represented a new opportunity to face fears and gain memories, terrifying and satisfying. Though it was quite fast paced, the activities felt rewarding when tried and the groups helped form more bonds between people who may not usually talk to each other.” – Audrey Lim
“Camp was amazing! The food was brilliant and the activities were exhilarating. During my time at camp, I lived in the chapel, yes, a church but it was amazing. My cabin mates are all amazing and made time at night so fun as well as my group members. So much laughter was shared and for anyone who will come to the camp, have fun and look on the bright side, even if things aren't that good. If me and my cabin mates could do it, you can too.” – Lawrence Wei
“Yeah 8 camp was really an amazing experience! The workers at the log cabin camp were kind and thoughtful-they connected with us and helped us reflect on how the skills we used to face challenges at camp could be applied in the real world, for example, trust for leap of faith, and communication for milk crate stacking. It was very peaceful, yet adventure filled, and the scenery was beautiful. It was also really fun because we got to meet new people in our year level and make more friends. Being at camp requires responsibility and independence but also is a place to learn and grow. Some of us found fear in things we did, such as the 20-meter-high giant swing or the dark night walk, but without friends' and teachers' encouragement, we persevered and pushed ourselves to achieve things we didn't even think of doing before. Overall, I'm very grateful I got to go, because between the activities, late night talks and new friends, I know I made memories I'll remember forever.” – Mia Weinman-Koksvik

Planning and Organisation
Our dedicated teaching staff invest significant time and effort into planning camps, with some taking over a year to organise. To ensure these experiences are accessible and affordable, we need to confirm student numbers early in the process.
Many camps begin with an Expression of Interest (EOI) event on Compass. It is important for parents and carers to register their child’s interest in the camp at this stage, as this provides us with an estimate of attendance and costs.
For some camps there are limited places available. If the number of interested students exceeds capacity, attendees are selected through a random ballot. Students not selected are placed on a waiting list and may be offered a spot if others withdraw.
Consent and payments for camps must be made before the due date specified on the event. The school cannot accept any late payments or consent for camps. If your child wishes to withdraw from the camp at any stage, the school must be notified as soon as possible.
Students withdrawing from camps and excursions are not automatically entitled to a refund. Where NO COST is incurred by the school, a full refund will be payable to the student when:
- The student's place is filled by another student
- The Principal deems the student’s withdrawal was unavoidable eg. Illness. Proof of reason for withdrawal may be requested in such circumstances.
Where some cost has been incurred by the school, a partial refund will be payable to the student withdrawing when:
- The Principal deems the student’s withdrawal was unavoidable. In such cases the refund will be the full amount paid by the student, less expenses incurred by the school as a result of the withdrawal.
Where FULL COST has been incurred by the school no refund will be payable to the student withdrawing when the Principal deems the withdrawal was avoidable. Refer College Refund Policy.
If you have any questions about camps, please contact the school or the camp organiser.

Electronic device use at Brentwood Canteen
We would like to thank you for your continued support with the Personal Mobile Devices Policy. We have noticed students trying to utilise their phones as a payment method at the canteen and ask that families look to make other arrangements.
Mobile phones are not to be used at the canteen as they are not allowed to be in use between the school hours of 8.45am and 3.05pm.
Students can make payment via an EFTPOS card or cash.
Thank you for your cooperation.
