Career profiling is an important part of supporting students as they begin to think more intentionally about their future pathways. It is a structured process that helps students develop a deeper understanding of their strengths, interests, learning preferences and personal motivations. Rather than focusing on making early career decisions, it is designed to build self-awareness and provide meaningful insights that can guide subject selection in Term 3 and future planning.
At St Catherine’s, Year 10 students completed their career profiling this week through the Career Avenues platform, which was introduced this year as a replacement for the Morrisby assessment. This transition reflects a more personalised approach to careers education, supporting students to explore a broader and more individualised range of future possibilities.

The Career Avenues profiling process involves an online assessment that explores a range of areas including interests, thinking styles and problem-solving approaches. From this, students receive a detailed personalised report that highlights their strengths, identifies the environments in which they are likely to thrive and outlines potential career pathways aligned with their profile. Importantly, it also provides insight into how they learn best, what motivates them and where their natural abilities lie.
Following the assessment, students are supported in interpreting their results through a one-on-one appointment with a careers practitioner. These discussions help students make connections between their profile, subject choices and longer-term aspirations. This ensures profiling is not simply a report, but a meaningful tool that informs decision-making and encourages thoughtful reflection.
A key feature of Career Avenues is its emphasis on ongoing development. Students are encouraged to revisit their profiles over time, recognising that interests and strengths can evolve throughout their Senior School journey. The platform also supports the creation of a career action plan, helping students identify next steps such as subject selection considerations, work experience opportunities or further career exploration.
Career profiling is not about defining a single pathway, but about opening possibilities. By helping students better understand themselves, the process supports them to make informed, confident decisions as they progress through their senior years and beyond.
