In the final two weeks of Term 2, 2026, six Year 10 students accompanied by Mr Jolliffe and Mrs Flippence will be heading overseas for our first Solomon Islands Mission Trip. This mission marks a major milestone for our school, fulfilling a key goal in our strategic plan: providing students with the opportunity to serve the global community. On this trip we will run programs for children, share the gospel and encourage the community in the Betivatu area.
A Strategic Partnership
To ensure a high-quality experience, we are partnering with Maitland Christian School (MCS). Having led this trip many times, MCS offers a proven model for student safety and community impact. This pilot trip allows NCS to learn from their expertise so we can lead our own independent missions in the future.
Our Mission Objectives
This trip is designed to be genuinely helpful to the community in the Solomon islands, to challenge our students and to deepen their faith through active service.
Our goals are:
Please be praying for our team as they prepare for this adventure and that the students will grow to be globally-minded and Christ-centered in their service.
At the end of last term, Year 10 embarked on their Quest camp – an epic three-day adventure through Sydney. After a brave early morning, we participated in the amazing work that Our Big Kitchen does in making proper meals for people in need. We were provided with ingredients and utensils, but no recipe! It was a proper MasterChef experience. In the end, Jude’s Spicy Surprise took home the trophy.
We then walked over to the Central Synagogue, where we were able to hear from a Holocaust survivor about his experiences. The synagogue is currently storing artefacts from the Sydney Jewish Museum, which gave us a real-life insight into what life looked like for Jews in WWII.
Camp saw Year 10 tackling the biggest quest of all: adulting. They were given a strict budget for the week, and needed to do all their own meal-planning, cooking and shopping. Grocery shopping in the Sydney CBD is not for the weak, but Year 10 cooked up some brilliant meals throughout camp. Shout-out to Ashkan for making extra for the teachers.
Our home-base for camp was Cockatoo Island, which provided beautiful views of the sunrise over the Harbour Bridge, scenic ferry rides and historical buildings to explore. Mrs Weathersbee created a Cockatoo Island scavenger hunt that made sure we got to see it all. That afternoon, we split up into two different quests. Some groups completed the bridge quest, which saw them walk the Harbour Bridge. The other groups did a mega scavenger hunt of the CBD - taking photos at the QVB, Circular Quay and Hyde Park (and a couple of cheeky visits to Yo-Chi).
We finished our camp with a production of Macbeth at the Seymour Center. It was amazing to see the play we had been studying brought to life, and done in a way that made it relevant to our modern context.
Year 10 loved the time with one another, the scavenger hunt and staying on the Island. And we, as the staff, loved seeing them be so wonderfully themselves – a testament to Jesus’ compassion and grace in their interactions with each other and the general public they came into contact with. It was a Quest most definitely worth completing!

NCS had a day of grit and contrasting fortunes at the Super 8s, highlighted by sound bowling performances, catches and sixes. Represented by two distinct squads—NCS Blue and NCS Red—the school demonstrated excellent competitive spirit across both fixtures.
The highlight of the day was the 5th-place playoff victory against Cedars. The NCS bowling attack was the difference-maker, dismantling the Cedars' lineup to restrict them to just 36 runs. Kye and Jash were the undisputed stars with the ball, both turning in match-winning spells to claim 3 wickets apiece. During the run chase, Thomas L muscled a number of sixes over the boundary to secure a comfortable win, successfully jumping the hurdle to claim 5th place.
In the second fixture, NCS Red faced a formidable ICS side. Despite the pressure, Connor led the bowling effort with a standout 2-wicket haul, while Cameron and Ometh also broke through for a wicket each. Chasing a target of 51, Ben provided the most resistance with a team-high 6 runs, but the Red squad was ultimately held to 30, falling short in a determined effort.
Wickets were also claimed by Jack B, Noah B, as keeper, and Ben N claimed a stumping.
Top scores went to Thomas L and Ben N, who both retired on twenty runs.Solid performances from youngsters Liam K, Max D, Carson S, Kye B and Noah P bode well for future teams. Well done to Corey, Alvin C, Theo H, and Lachlan B for their team spirit and individual performances.
Special mention also to Sam L from Secondary for contributing excellent umpiring services on the day. Thank you also to Glen N for driving the second bus and to all parents and friends attending the day.
Overall, entering two solid teams was a strong performance from NCS. This is the first time any school in this competition has done this, so it is a testament to the spirit of cricket being alive and well.

On April the first, (no fools jokes please!) NCS held our annual K-6 Cross Country Running Carnival after having two previously planned dates postponed due to inclement weather.
This year, for the first time, we were joined by several students, teachers and families from William Campbell College for our event. It was a joy to witness so many students running, speed walking (and a few ambling!) around the marvelous course that Mr. Hefferan and his team helped to create.
Conditions were close to ideal with almost no wind and warm temperatures (perhaps a little cooler would have been optimum, but it's rarely perfect!) greeting the first runners of the day, our 12+ girls and boys. They raced around 3 laps of the 1 kilometre track picking up wristbands as they progressed.
Year 2 were next on the course and did a wonderful job, ably led by some of our Year 6 'lead runners' (house captains and friends). Ice blocks and smiling parents / teachers were waiting for them as they finished and returned to their class areas.
Our 8-9 years boys and girls competed over 2 km, whilst the Kindy classes raced a lap of the oval before crossing below the inflatable finish line arch to great applause. 10 years boys and girls then raced their two laps closely followed by the Year 1 classes. Quite a few competitors needed the cheers and encouraging comments of close friends and family to help spur them on to the end.
Finally, our 11 years girls and boys closed out the event with final 3 laps of the track. Many of their tongues were literally hanging out as they looked forward to slurping and chomping their rewards, ice cold SuperDoopers!
Thank you to the 'army' of helpers who assisted in the organising the lead up and set up / pack away on the day. To our amazing grounds staff who helped create the course and made our school look beautiful and work so efficiently, we salute you! Thanks too to the organising committee, Mrs. Twitchen, Mrs, White, Mrs. Morris and Mr. Parker. This event couldn't have happened without you! Well done parents and friends for your enthusiastic support. It made the morning so very memorable.
We look forward to seeing many of you again at CSSA Zone and then State Cross Country events in Term 2. More details to follow.

At the start of Term 2, three Secondary students represented NCS at the CSSA State Touch Football Trials, held in place of the State Gala Day that was unfortunately cancelled last term.
Toby G (Year 8), Noah S (Year 9) and Xavier S (Year 9) joined approximately 50 students from CSSA schools across NSW in the 15&U division.
We are delighted to share that Xavier has been selected in the CSSA Secondary Boys 15&U Touch Football Team for 2026. This is an outstanding achievement, and he will now compete with the CSSA team at the CIS Championships on May 1st.
Congratulations, Xavier!
